  1. 11. Inflammation in equine articular cartilage : the effect of cytokines in chondrocyte pellets and explants: two in vitro models

    Author : Emilia Svala; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main reason for lameness in racehorses. OA is currently clinically diagnosed late in the disease process, when irreversible damages to the articular cartilage have become evident. READ MORE

  2. 12. Morphological and molecular changes in developing guinea pig osteoarthritis

    Author : Harald Brismar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis (OA) - an unspecific term for late joint destruction-is one of the most common causes of pain and disability in elderly. OA is characterized by destruction of articular cartilage and insufficient tissue repair. Hartley guinea pigs develop a spontaneous knee arthropathy similar to primary human knee OA. READ MORE

  3. 13. Primary osteoarthrosis in guinea pigs

    Author : Edin de Bri; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The course of primary osteoarthrosis (OA) in Hartley guinea pigs, which spontaneously develop OA in their knee joints, was studied by stereology (quantitative morphology). Between 6 and 12 months of age, structural changes similar to those of human OA developed, predominantly in the central (non-meniscus-covered) medial condyle, while the lateral condyle remained unaffected. 4. 14. Guinea pig osteoarthrosis : morphological and biochemical studies

    Author : Lei Wei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hartley guinea pigs spontaneously and reproducibly develop an arthropathy mimicking human primary osteoarthrosis. The morphological lesions first appear between 6 and 12 months of age, when it is confined to the non-meniscus-covered central compartment of the medial tibial plateau without initially involving the lateral side. 5. 15. Aggrecan fragments as biomarkers in osteoarthritis

    Author : Staffan Larsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protease; Aggrecan; osteoarthritis; proteoglycan; knee injury; biomarker; aggrecanase;

    Abstract : Background: In osteoarthritis (OA) the balance of cartilage matrix synthesis and degradation is disturbed, resulting in a gradual destruction of the articular cartilage. Matrix components released into body fluids by proteolytic cleavage can be used as biomarkers of ongoing processes. READ MORE
