  1. 6. Formation of non-metallic inclusions and the possibility of their removal during ingot casting

    Author : Lars Ragnarsson; Sichen Du; Carlo Mapelli; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ingot casting; tool steel; inclusion; runner; refractory; erosion; casting powder; cold model; argon shroud; reoxidation; oxygen measurement; CFD; PIV; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present study was carried out to investigate the formation and evolution of non-metallic inclusions during ingot casting. Emphasize have been on understanding the types of inclusions formed and developed through the casting process and on the development of already existing inclusions carried over from the ladle during casting. 2. 7. Cracking during Continuous Casting of Steels : Analysis tools and procedures to identify their causes on microalloyed steel slabs

    Author : Rosa Maria Pineda Huitron; Esa Vuorinen; Pavel Ernesto Ramírez López; Maria Begoña Santillana; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transverse corner cracks; Continuous Casting; Microalloyes steels; Secondary cooling; Cooling curves; Crack susceptibility; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Transverse corner cracks are one of the most common but complex defects formed in microalloyed steels during continuous casting (CC). Such cracks are detrimental because it leads to a loss in productivity with a great impact on environment, energy and economics for several steel making companies all over the world. READ MORE

  3. 8. Bracing of steel bridges during construction; theory, full-scale tests and simulations

    Author : Hassan Mehri; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bracing; steel-concrete composite; steel; bridge; test; construction; laboratory; experiment; experimental; theory;

    Abstract : A number of steel bridges have suffered lateral-torsional failure during their construction due to their lacking adequate lateral and/or rotational stiffness. In most cases, slight bracing can be of great benefit to the main girders involved through their controlling out-of-plane deformations and enabling the resistance that is needed to be achieved. 4. 9. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting

    Author : Fareed Ashraf Khan; Michael Vynnycky; Pär Jönsson; Bo Rogberg; Hasse Fredriksson; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbides; heat treatment; cast iron; ball bearing steel; casting; cooling rate; structure analysis; nodule distribution; melt stirring; nuclei; karbider; värmebehanding; gjutjärn; kullagerstål; gjutning; kylningshastighet; strukturanalys; nodulefördelning; smältrörelse; kärnor.; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides. 5. 10. Pores, inclusions and electromagnetic stirring : Topics from the continuous casting of steel

    Author : Arash Safavi Nick; Pär Jönsson; Michael Vynnycky; Jesper H. Hattel; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with two topics of relevance to the continuous casting of steel,in view of their importance as regards the quality of the final solidified structure.The first concerns the precipitation of gas pores and inclusions in the interden-dritic region of the solidifying metal.
