  1. 1. Optimization of Castings by using Surrogate Models

    Author : Erik Gustafsson; Niclas Strömberg; Bo Torstenfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Response Surface Methodology RSM ; Residual Stresses; Castings; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In this thesis structural optimization of castings and thermomechanical analysis of castings are studied.In paper I an optimization algorithm is created by using Matlab. The algorithm is linked to the commercial FE solver Abaqus by using Python script. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effect of boron and hydrogen on microstructure and mechanical properties of cast Ti-6Al-4V

    Author : Raghuveer Gaddam; Magnus Hörnqvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Titanium alloy; Metallography; Fractography; Castings; Low cycle fatigue; Hydrogen; Boron; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Titanium and its alloys are widely used in applications ranging from aeroengines and offshore equipment to biomedical implants and sporting goods, owing to their high ratio of strength to density, excellent corrosion resistance, and biomedical compatibility. Among the titanium alloys used in aerospace, Ti-6Al-4V (an α+β alloy) is the most widely used, in applications in which the temperature may reach 350°C, at which point it retains good fatigue and fracture properties as well as moderate tensile strength and ductility. 3. 3. Robustness Analysis of Residual Stresses in Castings

    Author : Magnus Hofwing; Niclas Strömberg; Mårten Olsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis is about robustness analysis of residual stresses in castings. This topic includes the analysis of residual stresses in castings and the robustness analysis itself, both covered in the thesis. Residual stresses are important when designing casted components. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical properties of semi-solid Al castings : Role of stirring

    Author : Qing Zhang; Anders E.W. Jarfors; Stefan Jonsson; Tomas Liljenfors; Arne K. Dahle; Johan Ahlström; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rheometal™ process; aluminum alloys; stirring; segregation; porosity; oxides; ductility; fatigue performance; melt quality;

    Abstract : Aluminum castings have been widely used in the automotive industry to reduce the vehicle's weight. However, the existence of casting defects significantly limits its application. The most common and detrimental defects in aluminum castings are porosity and oxides. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanical Properties of Semi-Solid Al Castings : Role of Stirring

    Author : Qing Zhang; Anders E.W. Jarfors; Stefan Jonsson; Jens Bergström; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rheometal™ process; aluminium alloys; stirring; segregation; porosity; oxides; ductility; fatigue performance;

    Abstract : Semi-solid metal (SSM) casting has been widely used in automotive industries to reduce the weight. In RheoMetalTM process which is one of the variations of SSM, the slurry fabrication can be finished within 30 second and can the slurry making process can be integrated into a high pressure die casting (HPDC) route without significant adjustments, making the process a promising alternative for industrial application.
