11. Parameter estimation in heterogeneous catalysis
Abstract : The detailed modelling of heterogeneous catalytic systems is challenging due to the unknown nature of new catalytic materials as well as the often required transient nature of the resulting models. Thus, this thesis deals with the methodologies involved in the kinetic modelling of heterogeneous catalysis and in particular NOx reduction systems. READ MORE

12. Asymmetric Synthesis and Mechanistic Insights of Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Hydrogenation
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on asymmetric synthesis and mechanistic insights of hydrogenations catalyzed by Ir-N,P- and Rh-diphosphine complexes. The developed methodologies provide an efficient catalytic system to access optically enriched compounds by exploiting the effect of the N,P ligand structure and investigating the enantioconvergent behavior. 13. Synthesis of functionalized allylic, propargylic and allenylic compounds : Selective formation of C–B, C–C, C–CF3 and C-Si bonds
Abstract : This thesis is focused on the development of new palladium and copper- mediated reactions for functionalization of alkenes and propargylic alcohol derivatives. The synthetic utility of the 1,2-diborylated butadienes synthesized in one of these processes has also been demonstrated. READ MORE

14. Combining Nanoplasmonics and Nanofluidics for Single Particle Catalysis
Abstract : Nanoparticles are, due to their large exposed surface area, widely used in the field of heterogeneous catalysis where they accelerate and steer chemical reactions. Although catalysis has been known about for centuries, the scrutiny of catalysts under realistic application conditions is still a major challenge. READ MORE

15. Synthesis and asymmetric transformations of diols by enzyme- and ruthenium catalysis
Abstract : The major part of this thesis describes the synthesis of aliphatic secondary diols and the development of lipase- and ruthenium-catalyzed asymmetric transformations of these diols. Several acyclic 1,4-diols and 1,5-diols were synthesized, and by combining a lipase-catalyzed asymmetric transformation with a ruthenium-catalyzed epimerization, enantiomerically- and diastereomerically enriched diacetates were obtained.
