  1. 21. DNA strand exchange and hydrophobic interactions between biomolecules

    Author : Bobo Feng; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATP synthase; DNA; membrane proteins; linear dichroism; Hydrophobic interactions; self-assembly; strand exchange; nanotechnology; liposomes;

    Abstract : The role of hydrophobic interactions in DNA strand exchange has been studied using fluorescence-labeled DNA oligomers in a FRET assay. Strand exchange was found to be accelerated in the presence of polyethylene glycol, which provides a crowded and hydrophobic environment possibly mimicking that of the catalytically active recombinase-DNA complexes. 2. 22. Structure and function of hepatic cytochromes P450 : implications for drug development

    Author : Mats Hidestrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Prediction of human drug metabolism in vivo by use of in vitro systems is of immense importance in drug development since it allows avoidance of drugs coming out on the market that are subjected to interindividual variability in metabolism or causes drug-drug interactions, both of which in turn can lead to adverse drug reactions and result in non-optimal treatment. In the present investigations the importance of P450 haplotype on substrate specificity was studied as well as a comparison of different in vitro systems for optimal prediction of in vivo drug metabolism. 3. 23. Nanoscaled Structures of Chlorate Producing Electrodes

    Author : Christine Hummelgård; Håkan Olin; Joakim Bäckström; Svein Sunde; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sodium chlorate is mainly used for production of chlorine dioxide (a pulp bleaching agent). Sodium chlorate is produced by an electrochemical process where chloride ions (from sodium chloride dissolved in water) are oxidized to chlorine on the anodes and hydrogen is evolved on the cathodes. 4. 24. On the role of Alkaline Earth Metal Oxides in Environmental Catalysis

    Author : Peter Broqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In heterogeneous catalysis, metal oxides have various roles: as catalysts, as support material for catalytically active metal particles, as promoters, as stabilizers, or as storage materials. Although their main application is as support material, their role as promoter or storage material becomes increasingly important as emission legislations are becoming more stringent. READ MORE

  5. 25. Asymmetric Catalysis : Ligand Design and Conformational Studies

    Author : Kristina Hallman; KTH; []
    Keywords : asymmetric catalysis; chiral ligand; oxazolines; conformational study; allylic substitution; polymer-bound ligands; dendritic ligands; crown ether; oxidations; palladacycle;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the design of ligands for efficientasymmetric catalysis and studies of the conformation of theligands in the catalytically active complexes. All ligandsdeveloped contain chiral oxazoline heterocycles. READ MORE
