6. Evolutionary Studies of the Mammalian Y Chromosome
Abstract : Sex chromosomes are useful in elucidating the evolutionary factors affecting diversity and divergence. In particular, Y chromosome analyses may complement studies using mitochondrial DNA for inferring sex-specific population genetic processes. READ MORE

7. Models for the Transfer of Drugs from the Nasal Cavity to the Central Nervous System
Abstract : The blood-brain barrier restricts the access of many compounds, including therapeutic agents, to the brain. Several human studies indicate that nasal administration of hydrophilic compounds, such as peptides, can bypass the blood-brain barrier. The aims of this thesis were to develop and refine models for this direct nose-to-brain transfer. READ MORE

8. Cattle Shipments and Disease Spread Modeling
Abstract : Spread of transboundary animal diseases can have large impact on animal welfare, public health and economy. The effects of this include economic losses in terms of lower milk production, lower weight gain and culling due to welfare concerns. READ MORE

9. Working Animals and Skeletal Lesions : Paleopathology of Cattle and Horse in Iron Age and Medieval Öland, Sweden
Abstract : Central to this thesis is the relationship between animal husbandry practices and the associated pathological conditions. Since bone elements from the extremities are subjected to abnormal load when animals are put to hard work this research aims to go further and interpret the prevalence of varying lesions and their connection with animal husbandry by using methods such as osteometric analysis, conventional radiograpic and bone mineral study, as well as incorporated molecular analysis. 10. Gene mapping of reproduction traits in dairy cattle
Abstract : In this thesis my aims were to map genes affecting reproduction in cattle and to explore the correlated effect of these genes on yield traits. This knowledge is expected to provide novel insights into the biological processes underlying reproduction traits and to identify individual causal polymorphisms or genetic markers for practical application in marker-assisted and genomic selection strategies.
