  1. 1. A Systems Tool for Prescriptive Policy Analysis : Labelled Causal Mapping Method for Policy-oriented Modelling, Simulation and Decision analysis

    Author : Osama Ibrahim; Aron Larsson; David Sundgren; Maja Schlüter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Public Policy; Systems analysis; Causal mapping; Policy modelling and simulation; Policy evaluation; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : The elicitation and processing of relevant information is the core of any policy decision-making process. Modelling is about making sense of the available information. Models are able to incorporate the contextual influences on policy making (e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Causal Attribution

    Author : B. Ingemar B. Lindahl; Dugald Murdoch; Ingmar Pörn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; causation; cause-condition distinction; causal selection; differentiating factor; inus condition; explanation; covering-law model; Mill’s methods; objectivity; pragmatics; responsibility; abnormalism; history; science; Theoretical philosophy; Teoretisk filosofi; Theoretical Philosophy; teoretisk filosofi;

    Abstract : This dissertation treats of the problem of attributing the occurrence of an individual event or state to a single cause — a problem commonly understood either as a question of distinguishing the cause from the mere conditions or as a matter of singling out, from several causes, one cause, as the cause. The main purpose of the study is to clarify some basic concepts, and some criteria of ascertainment of the cause, that may be discerned in the literature on causal attribution. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sensitivity Analysis of Untestable Assumptions in Causal Inference

    Author : Mathias Lundin; Xavier de Luna; Maria Karlsson; Sune Karlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Observational studies; semiparametric regression; unconfoundedness; Causal inference; Statistics; Statistik; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the research field of causal inference, where the effect of a treatment on an outcome is of interest is concerned. Many such effects cannot be estimated through randomised experiments. For example, the effect of higher education on future income needs to be estimated using observational data. READ MORE

  4. 4. Switched Bond Graphs : Simulation and Analysis

    Author : Krister Edström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bond graphs; Hybrid systems; Modeling; Simulation; Causality; Discontinuities;

    Abstract : In this thesis an approach to modeling and simulation of mode switching systems is investigated. This approach, switched bond graphs, is an extension of the bond graph language in the sense that it allows modeling of mode switching phenomena.The classical bond graph language as well as the switched bond graph language are presented. 5. 5. Uncertainty intervals and sensitivity analysis for missing data

    Author : Minna Genbäck; Xavier de Luna; Elena Stanghellini; Arvid Sjölander; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; missing data; missing not at random; non-ignorable; set identification; uncertainty intervals; sensitivity analysis; self reported health; average causal effect; average causal effect on the treated; mixed-effects models; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we develop methods for dealing with missing data in a univariate response variable when estimating regression parameters. Missing outcome data is a problem in a number of applications, one of which is follow-up studies. READ MORE
