11. Mid- and near-infrared NICE-OHMS : techniques for ultra-sensitive detection of molecules in gas phase
Abstract : Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectrometry (NICE-OHMS) is a technique for ultra-sensitive detection of molecular absorption and dispersion. For highest performance, the technique combines cavity enhancement (CE) with frequency modulation (FM); while the former increases the effective interaction length between the light and the analyte by several orders of magnitudes, the latter removes the in-coupling of 1/f noise and makes the signals background free. 12. Higher harmonic cavities at 3rd generation synchrotron light sources
Abstract : Synchrotron radiation is a tool widely used in science. It is produced by electron accelerators called storage rings. With the high performance of the 3rd generation synchrotron light sources, the scientific results are excellent. It is important to identify and overcome the limitations of a storage ring in order to enhance its performance. READ MORE

13. Stability analysis and inertial regimes in complex flows
Abstract : In this work we rst study the non-Newtonian effects on the inertial instabilities in shear flows and second the inertial suspensions of finite size rigid particles by means of numerical simulations. In the first part, both inelastic (Carreau) and elastic models (Oldroyd-B and FENE-P) have been employed to examine the main features of the non-Newtonian fluids in several congurations; flow past a circular cylinder, in a lid-driven cavity and in a channel. 14. Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Heat Transfer related to Gas Turbine Applications
Abstract : Gas turbines are broadly used in aerospace and marine propulsion and power production etc.Investigation of heat transfer in gas turbines is a long-lasting and still an active subject ofresearch due to its tremendous importance. READ MORE

15. Taste Hedonics and the Intake of Alcohol and Food
Abstract : This thesis includes four papers based on animal experimental work. They analyze the way in which activation of a specific motivational state - hunger- modulates the rewarding actions of alcohol and taste palatability. READ MORE
