  1. 11. Mid- and near-infrared NICE-OHMS : techniques for ultra-sensitive detection of molecules in gas phase

    Author : Thomas Hausmaninger; Ove Axner; Kyle Crabtree; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spectrometry; NICE-OHMS; trace gas detection; acetylene; methane; isotopologues; near-infrared; mid-infrared; shot-noise; optical parametric oscillator; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology;

    Abstract : Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectrometry (NICE-OHMS) is a technique for ultra-sensitive detection of molecular absorption and dispersion. For highest performance, the technique combines cavity enhancement (CE) with frequency modulation (FM); while the former increases the effective interaction length between the light and the analyte by several orders of magnitudes, the latter removes the in-coupling of 1/f noise and makes the signals background free. 2. 12. Higher harmonic cavities at 3rd generation synchrotron light sources

    Author : Mattias Georgsson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Double RF system; Electron storage ring; Instabilities; Landau damping; Beam lifetime; Physics; Synchrotron radiation; Fysik;

    Abstract : Synchrotron radiation is a tool widely used in science. It is produced by electron accelerators called storage rings. With the high performance of the 3rd generation synchrotron light sources, the scientific results are excellent. It is important to identify and overcome the limitations of a storage ring in order to enhance its performance. READ MORE

  3. 13. Stability analysis and inertial regimes in complex  flows

    Author : Iman Lashgari; Luca Brandt; Anke Lindner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-Newtonian flow; global stability analysis; inertial suspensions; particle dynamics;

    Abstract : In this work we rst study the non-Newtonian effects on the inertial instabilities in shear flows and second the inertial suspensions of finite size rigid particles by means of numerical simulations.In the first part, both inelastic (Carreau) and elastic models (Oldroyd-B and FENE-P) have been employed to examine the main features of the non-Newtonian fluids in several congurations; flow past a circular cylinder, in a lid-driven cavity and in a channel. Abstract : Gas turbines are broadly used in aerospace and marine propulsion and power production etc.Investigation of heat transfer in gas turbines is a long-lasting and still an active subject ofresearch due to its tremendous importance. READ MORE

  5. 15. Taste Hedonics and the Intake of Alcohol and Food

    Author : Anna Söderpalm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Alcohol drinking; Adrenalectomy; Corticosterone; Cyanoketone; Food intake; Food restriction; GABA; Metyrapone; Taste reactivity; Benzodiazepine; Chlordiazepoxide; Cis Z -flupentixol; Diazepam; Flumazenil; Microinjections; Midazolam; Nucleus of the Solitary tract; Palatability; Parabrachial nucleus; Peduculopontine Tegmental Nucleus; Reward; 4th ventricle.;

    Abstract : This thesis includes four papers based on animal experimental work. They analyze the way in which activation of a specific motivational state - hunger- modulates the rewarding actions of alcohol and taste palatability. READ MORE
