  1. 1. Adhesion Dependent Signals Cell Survival, Receptor Crosstalk and Mechanostimulation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anjum Riaz; Uppsala universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Integrins; Signal transduction; Protein kinase B; Akt; PI3K; Heparanase; ROS; Mechanosignalling; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Cellforskning; Cell Research;

    Abstract : The integrin family of cell surface receptors is evolutionary conserved and found in all multicellular animals. In humans 8-alpha and 18-beta integrins are non-covalently associated into 24 dimers. Integrins mediate cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions and participate in cell signalling. Abstract : The secretion of islet hormones from endocrine cells of the pancreas plays vital roles in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Dysfunction of these cells leads to diabetes, a devastating metabolic disorder affecting millions worldwide, but underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Tissue Engineering to Engineering Education Research: Designing in vitro cell microenvironments and undergraduate research experiences

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis
