  1. 1. Adhesion Dependent Signals : Cell Survival, Receptor Crosstalk and Mechanostimulation

    Author : Anjum Riaz; Staffan Johansson; Bengt Hallberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Integrins; Signal transduction; Protein kinase B; Akt; PI3K; Heparanase; ROS; Mechanosignalling; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Cellforskning; Cell Research;

    Abstract : The integrin family of cell surface receptors is evolutionary conserved and found in all multicellular animals. In humans 8-alpha and 18-beta integrins are non-covalently associated into 24 dimers. Integrins mediate cell-extracellular matrix and cell-cell interactions and participate in cell signalling. 2. 2. Regulation of docking and priming in pancreatic α- and β-cells

    Author : Muhmmad Omar-Hmeadi; Sebastian Barg; Patrick MacDonald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type-2 diabetes; glucagon; insulin; somatostatin; exocytosis;

    Abstract : The secretion of islet hormones from endocrine cells of the pancreas plays vital roles in maintaining glucose homeostasis. Dysfunction of these cells leads to diabetes, a devastating metabolic disorder affecting millions worldwide, but underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Tissue Engineering to Engineering Education Research: Designing in vitro cell microenvironments and undergraduate research experiences

    Author : Patric Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

  4. 4. Studies on various culture systems for chondrocytes and osteoblasts

    Author : Juha Prittinen; Mikko Lammi; Minna Kellomäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; chondrocyte; osteoarthritis; surface materials; topography; tissue engineering; mechanical stimulation; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Osteoarthritis and osteochondral defects are ailments that are increasing in frequency as the lifespan of the population increases and sedentary lifestyle becomes more common. Osteoarthritis is an inflammatory disease that causes the progressive degeneration of articular surfaces and the underlying bone. READ MORE

  5. 5. Integrin Signaling in Cell Adhesion and Mechanotransduction : Regulation of PI3K, AKT, and ROS

    Author : Kathrin Stephanie Zeller; Staffan Johansson; Kristofer Rubin; John Couchman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; integrin; ROS; PI3K; AKT; mechanosignaling; actin polymerization; spreading;

    Abstract : Integrins are a family of conserved cell surface receptors found throughout the animal kingdom. They comprise 24 dimers in mammals, and regulate a number of processes including cell survival, differentiation, and migration. READ MORE
