26. Development of DNA-based methods for analysis of protein interactions
Abstract : In situ proximity ligation assay (PLA) is a method for detection of protein interactions, post-translational modifications (PTMs) and individual proteins that allows information about their localization in a cell or tissue to be extracted. The method is based on oligonucleotide-conjugated antibodies (proximity probes) that upon binding of two epitopes in close proximity give rise to an amplifiable DNA circle. READ MORE

27. Minimal Residual Disease Assessment in Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Abstract : Traditionally, response to treatment in hematological malignancies is evaluated by light microscopy of bone marrow (BM) smears, but due to more effective therapies more sensitive methods are needed. Today, detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) using immunological and molecular techniques can be 100 times more sensitive than morphology. READ MORE

28. Gene therapy of neuroblastoma
Abstract : Aims: The survival of children with advanced stages of neuroblastoma has not improved significantly during recent years. Therefore additional treatments based on other modalities need to be developed. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the possibility to develop gene therapy of neuroblastoma. READ MORE

29. Visualization of Protein Activity Status in situ Using Proximity Ligation Assays
Abstract : In 2001 the human proteome organization (HUPO) was created with the ambition to identify and characterize all proteins encoded in the human genome according to several criteria; their expression levels in different tissues and under different conditions; the sub-cellular localization; post-translational modifications; interactions, and if possible also the relationship between their structure and function. When the knowledge of different proteins and their potential interactions increases, so does the need for methods able to unravel the nature of molecular processes in cells and organized tissues, and ultimately for clinical use in samples obtained from patients. 30. Nanotools for biosensing and manipulating cells
Abstract : In medical research and within the field of Biology, it is important to find effective tools for probing and manipulating cells, as well as tools for detecting biomolecules. These tools should be sensitive, with high specitivity, and, if aimed at interacting with cells, they should be minimally invasive. READ MORE
