  1. 1. Cell motility : the dynamics of the cortical weave of microfilaments and its relation to microtubules and coated vesicles in fibroblasts and glial cells

    Author : Anna-Stina Höglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Actin and myosin, the major components of the microfilament system are found in most - if not all - eukaryotic cells. In muscle they form the basis of the contractile apparatus which generates the rapid, strong and unidirectional movements that characterizes muscle activity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cell motility : the organization of the microfilament system in cultured cells with special emphasis on the cortical weave of actin filaments

    Author : Roger Karlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The microfilament system formed by actin, myosin and associated proteins constitutes the molecular basis for many of the motile phenomena which eukaryotic cells express. The organization of this system varies considerably from cell type to cell type, and is characterized on one hand by strictly ordered, more or less flexible arrangements of actin filaments and on the other by actin present in primarily a nonfilamentous form ready to polymerize in response to certain stimuli. 3. 3. A methodological platform to study molecular biocompatibility of biomaterials. Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Maria Lennerås; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osseointegration; titanium; inflammation; cell recruitment; cell adhesion; bone regeneration; bone remodelling; gene expression; immunohistochemistry; histomorphometry; removal torque; ultrastructure; FACS; protein profiling; transfemoral amputation; abutment; percutaneous; bacteria; clinical signs;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to develop a methodological platform in order to advance our scientific understanding of the mechanisms of osseointegration. Screw-shaped, titanium implants, with different surface properties, were inserted in the rat tibia, or incubated in mono- or co-culture of human monocytes and MSCs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Accumulation and Cellular Clearance of IAPP and Proteotoxicity of ATTR in Drosophila Models

    Author : Xiaohong Gu; Gunilla Westermark; Anders Olofsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amyloid; IAPP; ATTR; ATTR amyloidosis; crystalline structure; aggrephagy; Drosophila melanogaster; Gal4-UAS; electron tomography; DAMS; SOHA; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Proteins’ functions are dependent on their three-dimensional (3D) structure. Under certain circumstances, proteins misfold and form aggregates, sometimes leading to amyloidosis. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) builds up amyloid in the pancreatic islet of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). 5. 5. The cell wall ultrastructure of wood fibres : effects of the chemical pulp fibre line

    Author : Jesper Fahlén; Ulf W. Gedde; Drek G. Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; atomic force microscopy; cellulose; cell wall; drying; fiber; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Knowledge of the ultrastructural arrangement within wood fibres is important for understanding the mechanical properties of the fibres themselves, as well as for understanding and controlling the ultrastructural changes that occur during pulp processing. The object of this work was to explore the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM) in studies of the cell wall ultrastructure and to see how this structure is affected in the kraft pulp fibre line.
