16. Assessment of eosinophil degranulation in allergic diseases and experimental models
Abstract : In allergic disorders, the eosinophilic granulocytes migrate to affected tissues and release granule proteins with cytotoxic, immunoregulatory, and remodeling-promoting properties. Given that degranulation is reflected by a loss in eosinophil granule density of living cells, or by cell membrane rupture and release of intact granules, these morphological changes may represent a biomarker of the allergic disease. 17. Preservation of parathyroid function in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
Abstract : Preservation of normal parathyroid function and calcium homeostasis after operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a difficult assignment in endocrine surgery, and it is crucial to minimise the risks of permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this thesis was to study the vascular supply of the parathyroid glands and the revascularisation, growth, and function of transplanted parathyroid tissue, in order to add new information about parathyroid preservation. 18. Long-term studies after primary and revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using different types of autograft - with special emphasis on the clinical, radiographic, histological and ultrastructural results
Abstract : Long-term studies after primary and revision Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using different types of autograft? with special emphasis on the clinical, radiographic, histological and ultrastructural results Mattias Lid?n Department of Orthopaedics, Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, G?teborg, Sweden The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcome after primary ACL reconstruction surgery using either BPTB or HT autografts and, in addition, ACL revision surgery using re-harvested patellar tendon autografts. Clinical and standard radiographic assessments were made of both the primary ACL-reconstructed knees and the patients who underwent ACL revision surgery using re-harvested patellar tendon autografts. 19. Mechanisms of Osseointegration: Experimental Studies on Early Cellular and Molecular Events in vivo
Abstract : The early cellular and molecular activities determining the early tissue response and bone formation at bone/implant interface are not fully understood. The general aim of the current thesis was to develop a model for studying the early molecular and cellular activities in different bone types, and in response to different implant surface properties. 20. Pharmacological Studies of CHS 828 and Etoposide Induced Tumour Cell Death
Abstract : Antitumour properties of the cyanoguanidine CHS 828 and analogues were discovered in 1997. CHS 828 is presently in clinical phase I/II trials. This thesis encompasses in vitro studies of the kinetics and mode of cell death induced in the human cell line U-937 GTB, by CHS 828 and the standard antitumour drug etoposide. READ MORE
