  1. 1. Selection and use of affinity proteins developed by combinatorial engineering

    Author : Kristofer Sandström; KTH; []
    Keywords : phage display; combinatorial; selection; cd28; cllulosome; cellulose;

    Abstract : In affinity protein biotechnology the selective bindingbetween a chosen protein and an interacting biomolecule isutilized for a variety of applications including bioseparation,detection and therapy. Traditionally, affinity proteinsrecruited for such applications have been derived from naturalproteins or immunoglobulins generated via immunization routes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving cellulose fibre properties by controlled adsorption of xylans

    Author : Tobias Köhnke; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Isolation; Lignin-carbohydrate complexes; Adsorption; Extraction; Tensile strength; Aggregation; Softwood kraft pulp; Cellulose fibre; Hornification; Xylan;

    Abstract : Hemicelluloses are, together with cellulose and pectins, the polysaccharide constituents in the cell walls of higher plants. Xylans are the most common hemicelluloses, and are considered to be the second most abundant biopolymer in the plant kingdom. READ MORE

  3. 3. Enhanced Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Lignocellulose in Bioethanol Production Substrate Interactions with Surfactants and Polymers

    Author : Johan Börjesson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymologi; Penicillium brasilianum; SSF; Ethanol; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; Protease; Adsorption; PEG; Surfactant; Hydrolysis; Lignocellulose; Cellulase; Hypocrea jecorina; Trichoderma reesei; Cellulose;

    Abstract : Ethanol produced from cellulose is a promising future alternative fuel. The production process has three main steps: (i) pretreatment of raw material to increase degradability; (ii) enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose to produce glucose; (iii) fermentation of glucose into bioethanol. 4. 4. Surface modification of cellulose materials : from wood pulps to artificial blood vessels

    Author : Lage Ahrenstedt; Harry Brumer; Lars Wågberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the improvement of two radically different cellulose materials, paper and artificial blood vessels, constructed from two diverse cellulose sources, wood pulp and Acetobacter xylinum. The improvement of both materials was possible due to the natural affinity of the hemicellulose xyloglucan for cellulose. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interfacial Properties of Biomacromolecular Model Systems: Surface Forces and Nanotribology

    Author : Niklas Nordgren; Mark Rutland; Harry Brumer III; Robert Pelton; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; afm; surface force; friction; composite material; model surface; quartz crystal microbalance; dissipation; cellulose; xyloglucan; chitosan; colloidal probe; nanotribology; biomimetic; enzymatic; polysaccharide; graft; fiber; thiol; spring constant; calibration; lubrication; polyion; responsive.; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The nanotribology, adhesion and related interfacial properties of biomacromolecular systems have been studied.  The aim was to elucidate the role of physisorbed and chemically grafted bio-polymers implicated as mediators for cellulose based processing and material design. READ MORE
