  1. 1. Go with the flow : visually mediated flight control in bumblebees

    Author : Nellie Linander; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight; Insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight;

    Abstract : Despite their small brains and tiny eyes, flying insects are capable of detecting and avoiding collisions with moving obstacles, and with remarkable precision they navigate through environments of different complexity. For this thesis, I have investigated how bumblebees use the pattern of apparent image motion that is generated in their eyes as they move through the world (known as optic flow), in order to control flight. 2. 2. Three dimensional mathematical modelling of pronuclei migration for the mouse

    Author : Sofia Tapani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fertilisation process; pronucleus; dynamical simulation; SDE; correlation; CUSUM; microtubule; confocal microscopy; dynamical simulation;

    Abstract : The main question addressed in this thesis is what happens between the moment when the sperm enters the egg and the fusion of the male and the female pronuclei. Orientation of the apposing pronuclei most likely plays a decisive role in the polarity of the developing embryo. READ MORE

    Abstract : Nineteenth-century medicine is characterised by rapid technological change, new methods of diagnostics and treatments of disease, far-reaching developments in medical science, and professionalisation. This has led to great interest in the period and a large body of scholarly and popular research. READ MORE

  4. 4. Applanation Resonance Tonometry for Intraocular Pressure Measurement

    Author : Per Hallberg; Olof A. Lindahl; Anders Eklund; Christina Lindén; Per Ask; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Physics; Resonance; applanation; tonometry; glaucoma; Goldmann; biomechanical; Intraocular; ART; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is one of the major risk factors for glaucoma. Since glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, reliable methods for measuring the IOP are important. This doctoral dissertation presents a new method, applanation resonance tonometry (ART), for measurement of IOP. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aspects on measuring electrical current utilizing magnetic zero-flux technique

    Author : Maria Hammarqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Current Transformer; AC Current; Frequency Response; Measurement Uncertainty; Traceability; Zero-Flux Measurement Technique; Zero-Flux;

    Abstract : The utilization of high accuracy measurements of electrical quantities is a prerequisite for the development of modern society. Generally, measurements serve different purposes and hence the criteria for the measurement equipment and method are different. READ MORE
