  1. 11. Local structure and composition : in additively manufactured bulk metallic glasses and composites

    Author : Inga Katharina Goetz; Jochen M. Schneider; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Ulf Jansson; Maria Teresa Pérez Prado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; additive manufacturing; bulk metallic glasses; nanoscale clustering; convective flow; laser nitriding; laser powder bed fusion; metallic glass - ceramic composites; oxygen impurities; mechanical properties; magnetic properties; viscosity; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex multi-material geometries and bulk metallic glass parts beyond their critical casting thickness. The local modification of structure, composition, and properties is explored in this thesis with the aim to design novel composite materials and functional gradients. READ MORE

  2. 12. Wave-actuated Preform Infiltration Routines in MMC Production

    Author : Lars-Olov Pennander; Industriell Produktion; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material technology; Magnetostrictive; Vibration; Actuation; Wave; Infiltration; Preform; Metal; Composites; MMC; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : The implementation of highly magnetostrictive wave-actuator techniques in preform infiltration processes for metal-matrix composite production is described. Metal matrix materials require additional methods to handle the content, shape and position of the ceramic reinforcements, which are not required for metal alloy casting. READ MORE

  3. 13. Diffusion bonding of structural ceramics to superalloys by HIP

    Author : Richard Larker; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Diffusion bonding of structural ceramics to superalloys has been investigated. Emphasis was placed on methods resulting in joints durable at elevated temperatures (500 - 700ºC) between these two classes of high - temperature materials. READ MORE

  4. 14. Processing and Properties of zirconia-CNT composites

    Author : Latifa Melk; Pavol Hvizdos; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials; Smart machines and materials AERI ; Smarta maskiner och material FOI ;

    Abstract : In the last decades there has been growing interest in developing ceramic materials with high fracture toughness (KIc) and strength for structural applications. In the specific case of 3 mol % yttria-doped tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP), K_Ic can be increased by promoting phase transformation from tetragonal (t) to monoclinic (m) phase in front of a propagating crack tip referred to as transformation toughening.
