  1. 21. Magnetron Sputtering of Nanocomposite Carbide Coatings for Electrical Contacts

    Author : Kristian Nygren; Ulf Jansson; Peter Leisner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transition metal carbide; amorphous carbon; composite; contact resistance; corrosion; friction; optical properties;

    Abstract : Today’s electronic society relies on the functionality of electrical contacts. To achieve good contact properties, surface coatings are normally applied. Such coatings should ideally fulfill a combination of different properties, like high electrical conductivity, high corrosion resistance, high wear resistance and low cost. READ MORE

  2. 22. Theoretical and experimental studies of ternary and quaternary nitrides for machining and thermoelectric materials

    Author : Robert Pilemalm; Per Eklund; Sergei I Simak; Biplap Sanyal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; materials science; thin film physics; nitrides; machining; thermoelectrics; materialvetenskap; tunnfilmsfysik; nitrider; metallbearbetning; termoelektricitet;

    Abstract : Nitrides are used as coatings and thin films for a wide range of applications. The study and use of nitrides in the recent decades have shifted towards ternary, quaternary or even higher order (complex) nitrides. READ MORE

  3. 23. Microstructural investigation of CVD TiAlN, TiN and WN coatings

    Author : Ren Qiu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEM; XEDS; TiN; SEM; APT; TiAlN; coating growth; EBSD; WN; CVD;

    Abstract : High speed machining of workpiece materials puts extreme thermal and pressure loads onto the cutting tool inserts, which thus must possess both high hardness and good toughness. Nowadays, most cutting tools are made of cemented carbide substrates that are coated with wear-resistant coatings. READ MORE

  4. 24. Biomaterials as carriers for bone active molecules-An approach to create off-the-shelf bone substitutes

    Author : Deepak Raina; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biomaterials; Bone tissue engineering; Bone morphogenic protein-2; Zoledronic acid ZA ; calcium sulphate; Hydroxyapatite; Gelatin;

    Abstract : Bone tissue is commonly transplanted during orthopedic surgeries, primarily for the management of bone defects caused by trauma or various orthopedic conditions including, but not limited to, infections and tumours. Bone grafts are a surgeon’s choice, but their associated drawbacks are paving the way for biomaterial based bone graft substitutes. READ MORE

    Author : Silvia Ruffieux; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; on-scalp MEG; multi-channel system; SQUID optimization; kinetic inductance magnetometer; magnetoencephalography; magnetometer; crosstalk; SQUID magnetometer calibration; high-Tc SQUID; kinetic inductance;

    Abstract : In the growing field of on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG), brain activity is studied by non-invasively mapping the magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents with sensors that are flexibly placed in close proximity to the subject's head. This thesis focuses on high-temperature superconducting magnetometers made from YBa2Cu3Ox-7 (YBCO), which enables a reduction in the sensor-to-room temperature standoff distance from roughly 2 cm (for conventional MEG systems) down to 1 mm.
