  1. 1. Localisation of Protein Kinase C in Apoptosis and Neurite Outgrowth

    University dissertation from Division of Molecular Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine, UMAS, Malmö

    Author : Anna Schultz; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; onkologi; cancer; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Prostate Cancer; Neuroblastoma; Ceramide; Golgi Apparatus; Neurite outgrowth; Apoptosis; Protein Kinase C; C1 domain;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases, which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. One major aim of this thesis work was to investigate if altered levels of PKC isoforms influence the apoptotic responses of malignant cell-lines. READ MORE

  2. 2. Signal transduction pathways leading to apoptosis or necrosis in insulin-producing cells and prevention of cell death using gene transfer

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Johan Saldeen; Uppsala universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; β-cells; apoptosis; Bcl-2; p38 mitogen activated kinase; NF-kB; necrosis; sphingomyelmase; ceramide; poly ADP-ribose polymerase; nitric oxide; IL-1β; TNF-a; Cellbiologi; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Cell biology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Signal transduction pathways potentially involved in destruction of insulin-producing β-cells in type-l diabetes and gene transfer to prevent β-cell death were studied in vitro. Adenovirus-polylysine/DNA complexes (AdpL) or polycationic liposomes mediated high reporter gene expression in dissociated primary human, fetal porcine, rat and mouse islet cells whereas gene transfer to intact islets was less efficient. 3. 3. Glucose- and hypoxia-regulated insulin gene expression

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Linda Tillmar; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]

    Abstract : Although extensively studied, there are still many unanswered questions regarding the exact regulation of insulin gene expression. This is important to further investigate since it will hopefully help us understand the pathophysiology of some types of diabetes. READ MORE

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Hudens fuktighet kan påverkas av många faktorer så som torr luft, ett varmt bad, användning av diskhandskar eller plåster, osv. Men hur påverkas hudbarriären av förändringarna av de yttre förhållandena? Frågan är särskilt relevant i situationer då läkemedel läggs på huden eftersom detta, i de flesta fall, för med sig en förändring av de yttre villkoren som kan påverka barriärens egenskaper. Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish De allra flesta mikrobiella infektioner börjar på slemhinnan och en gemensam nämnare för patogena mikroberna är deras förmåga att stimulera ett immunsvar på just den plats som de infekterat. De patogena bakteriernas kommer först i kontakt med epitelcellerna, som bildar kroppens barriär mot omgivningen. READ MORE
