  1. 11. Protein Kinase Inhibition in Late Cerebral Ischemia after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Author : Saema Ansar; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; protein kinase; cerebral ischemia; subarachnoid hemorrage; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi;

    Abstract : The cerebral ischemia that occur after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) often results in death or severe disability and is a significant cause of stroke. Our hypothesis is that cerebral ischemia leads to pathophysiological receptor changes on the vascular smooth muscle cells. READ MORE

  2. 12. Importance of MAPK and PKC in cerebrovascular endothelin receptor changes

    Author : Marie Henriksson; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Fysiologi; Physiology; cerebral arteries; ischemia; receptors; endothelin; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : Endothelin is a vasoactive peptide that exerts its effect through two receptors; the endothelin type A (ETA) and type B (ETB) receptor. The contractile ETA receptor is localized on smooth muscle cells in the vascular wall, while the ETB receptors are mainly situated on endothelial cells, mediating vasodilatation. READ MORE

  3. 13. Dynamic Fetal and Placental Circulatory Changes during Uterine Contractions

    Author : Hui Li; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sexualitet; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; Obstetrik; sexuality; reproduction; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Venous; Uterine; Umbilical; Resistance; Pregnancy; Oxytocin; Labor; IUGR; Flow; Doppler; Contraction; Brain-sparing; Cerebral;

    Abstract : The best mode of delivery for fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and umbilical artery (UA) blood flow changes is not well elucidated. Uterine artery, fetal UA, middle cerebral artery (MCA), and venous blood flow changes during uterine contractions during an oxytocin challenge test (OCT) have not been observed systemically. 4. 14. Role of cerebral Blood Flow in Fetal Surveillance

    Author : Riffat Cheema; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT In high-risk pregnancies the chronic hypoxemic fetus redistributes its circulation to maintain the blood supply to the vital organs: brain, heart and adrenals. The aims of the studies included in this thesis were: 1) to establish reference curves for fetal cerebral venous blood velocity in normal pregnancies; 2) to determine in high-risk pregnancies the frequency of abnormal Doppler in the cerebral veins and uterine, umbilical and middle cerebral arteries and the umbilical vein and ductus venosus with correlation with adverse perinatal outcome; 3) to analyze the correlation between brain sparing and redistribution of circulation and placental vascular impedance; 4) to evaluate the correlation between brain sparing and fetal umbilical cord blood gases at birth. 5. 15. The cerebral circulation in preeclampsia : abnormalities in autoregulation and perfusion

    Author : Michael A Belfort; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : preeclampsia; eclampsia; autoregulation; cerebral perfusion pressure; Doppler; central retinal artery; ophthalmic artery; middle cerebral artery; magnesium sulfate; nimodipine; headache; scotomata;

    Abstract : Background: Eclampsia continues to be a major cause of maternal death. Abnormal cerebral blood flow and autoregulation may play an important role in the causation. Doppler ultrasound now allows assessment of the pathophysiology of preeclampsia, and the mechanisms of action of drugs used to treat it. READ MORE
