11. To select one hand while using both : neural mechanisms supporting flexible hand dominance in bimanual object manipulation
Abstract : In daily activities, the brain regularly assigns different roles to the hands dependingon task and context. Yet, little is known about the underlying neural processes. Thiscertainly applies to how the brain, where each hemisphere primarily controls onehand, manages the between-hand coordination required in bimanual objectmanipulation. READ MORE

12. Mechanisms controlling striatal projection neurone generation, from patterning to early differentiation
Abstract : The striatum is part of the telencephalon, the most anterior part of the vertebrate brain. From when it first can be identified, telencephalic morphology is highly complex and a wide range of mechanisms has been suggested to participate in its induction, patterning and neurogenesis. 13. Anti-epileptic and neuroprotective mechanisms by Topiramate and Levetiracetam evaluated in primary cultures
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate plausible intracellular mechanisms of action for antiepileptic drugs, Topiramate (TPM) and Levetiracetam (LEV), and to investigate if TPM possesses neuroprotective properties. The thesis is based on results from calcium imaging, immunohistochemical stainings, viability tests, and Western blot using primary cortical or hippocampal cultures, or hippocampal brain slices. 14. Cerebral blood flow and intracranial pulsatility studied with MRI : measurement, physiological and pathophysiological aspects
Abstract : During each cardiac cycle pulsatile arterial blood inflates the vascular bed of the brain, forcing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and venous blood out of the cranium. Excessive arterial pulsatility may be part of a harmful mechanism causing cognitive decline among elderly. READ MORE

15. Infrared Laser Stimulation of Cerebral Cortex Cells - Aspects of Heating and Cellular Responses
Abstract : The research of functional stimulation of neural tissue is of great interest within the field of clinical neuroscience to further develop new neural prosthetics. A technique which has gained increased interest during the last couple of years is the stimulation of nervous tissue using infrared laser light. READ MORE
