  1. 11. Clinical evaluation of an adjustable cerebrospinal fluid shunt valve

    Author : Göran Zemack; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; Cost analysis; Codman Hakim programmable valve; Pressure adjustable shunt valve; Cerebrospinal fluid shunt; Idiopathic intracranial hypertension; Hydrocephalus; Arachnoid cyst;

    Abstract : Introduction: Shunting systems are implanted for draining cerebrospinal fluid to treat hydrocephalus, intracranial cysts, and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Most shunt systems include a valve which regulates drainage. A differential pressure valve opens when intracranial pressure exceeds the valve’s opening pressure. READ MORE

  2. 12. Studies of cerebral blood flow and cerebrospinal fluid in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Gustaf Österlundh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia; methotrexate; neurotoxicity; cerebral blood flow; single photon emission computed tomography; cerebrospinal fluid; neuron-specific enolase; glia fibrillary acidic protein; neurofilament; ascorbyl radical;

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood malignancy and more than 80% of the patients are cured today. Treatment might cause side effects and central nervous system (CNS) irradiation has been replaced by systemic high-dose methotrexate (MTX) and intrathecal (IT) MTX due to the risk of late effects. 4. 14. Development of proteomic methods for studying cerebrospinal fluid proteins involved in Alzheimer´s disease

    Author : Maja Puchades; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimer s disease; cerebrospinal fluid; proteomics; mass spectrometry; biomarkers; synaptic proteins; liquid phase IEF; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in western countries. The main neuropathological findings in the AD brain are senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and degeneration of neurons and synapses. READ MORE

  5. 15. Assessment of cerebrospinal fluid system dynamics : novel infusion protocol, mathematical modelling and parameter estimation for hydrocephalus investigations

    Author : Kennet Andersson; Anders Eklund; Karin Wårdell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicinsk teknik; hydrocefalus; infusionstest; utflödeskonduktans; systemidentifiering; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) have a disturbance in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) system. The treatment is neurosurgical – a shunt is placed in the CSF system. The infusion test is used to assess CSF system dynamics and to aid in the selection of patients that will benefit from shunt surgery. READ MORE
