  1. 21. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals

    Author : Dimitrios Andreou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ;

    Abstract : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia. 3. 23. Mapping the Huntington's disease process using cerebrospinal fluid analysis

    Author : Valter Niemelä; Anne-Marie Landtblom; Dag Nyholm; Jimmy Sundblom; Edward Wild; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Neurodegeneration; Huntingtons disease; Neurogenetics; Neuroinflammation; Neurofilament light; tau; Proenkephalin; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder, caused by a CAG-repeat expansion in the HTT-gene. Today there are no disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), but several promising clinical trials are underway, including therapies that reduce mutant huntingtin expression. READ MORE

  4. 24. Spinal cord oxygenation during thoracic aortic clamping in pigs

    Author : Anders Hellberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Thoracoabdominal aortic replacement; spinal cord ischaemia; cerebrospinal; intrathecal monitoring; oxygen tension; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Despite a dramatic reduction in the mortality associated with thoracoabdominal aorticreplacement during the past 40 years, spinal cord ischaemia that results in paraplegia remainsa serious complication. Simple and reliable intraoperative monitoring techniques are neededto detect impending neurological deficit in time to prevent permanent damage. READ MORE

  5. 25. Aspects on optimisation of High Dose Methotrexate treatment in children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia

    Author : Peter Jönsson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; high dose methotrexate; exposure; dosing algorithms; renal function; cerebrospinal fluid; childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia; population pharmacokinetics; relapse risk;

    Abstract : Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) has a unique place in the history of oncology, as it was the first cancer to be cured by drugs. It is therefore an important model upon which concepts of chemotherapy in other malignancies have been developed. Methotrexate is a major component of most contemporary childhood ALL treatment protocols. READ MORE
