  1. 1. An Insight into the Critical Role of Microstructure and Surface Preparation on Localized Conversion Coating Deposition on Cast Al Alloys

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Marjorie Olivier; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface preparation; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; Aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; Cerium; lokal deposition; omvandlingsbeläggningsbehandling; förbehandling av yta; mikrostruktur; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The spontaneous cerium conversion coating formation over aluminium alloys is affected by the chemical process conditions, the surface preparation prior to conversion treatment and the microstructure of the underlying alloy. Most research performed until now focus only on the former whereas the influence of the latter two is poorly understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface pre-treatments; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; omvandlingsbeläggningar; cerium; lokaliserad deposition; ytförbehandlingar; microstruktur SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 3. 3. Porous Cerium Dioxide for Catalytic Applications

    Author : Mats Lundberg; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; materialteknik; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Materiallära; Material technology; catalysis; transmission electron microscopy; macroporous; mesoporous; cerium dioxide; zirconium dioxide;

    Abstract : Mesoporous cerium dioxide with high crystallinity has been synthesized and studied by TEM, SEM, nitrogen adsorption, PXRD, AFM, and SAXS. The catalytic properties of the materials have been investigated The results of the catalysis experiments were correlated with high resolution TEM investigations of the corresponding material, and it was found that the exposed crystallographic facets play an important role in the conversion of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. 4. 4. An Experimental Study of Submerged Entry Nozzles (SEN) Focusing on Decarburization and Clogging

    Author : Arashk Memarpour; Pär Jönsson; Torbjörn Carlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refractory; SEN; Clogging; REM; Coating; glaze; alkaline; Post- Mortem; industrial preheating; ZrSi2; Graphite; Alumina; Oxidation; Al2O3-C; ZrO2-C; MgO-C; decarburization; reaction mechanism; Yttria Stabilized Zirconia; plasma spray-PVD coating;

    Abstract : The submerged entry nozzle (SEN) is used to transport the molten steel from a tundish to a mould. The main purpose of its usage is to prevent oxygen and nitrogen pick-up by molten steel from the gas. Furthermore, to achieve the desired flow conditions in the mould. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles and Gadolinium Integration : Synthesis, Characterization and Biomedical Applications

    Author : Peter Eriksson; Kajsa Uvdal; Caroline Brommesson; Xuanjun Zhang; Zhang-Jun Hu; Duncan Sutherland; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A challenging task, in the area of magnetic resonance imaging is to develop contrast enhancers with built-in antioxidant properties. Oxidative stress is considered to be involved in the onset and progression of several serious conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and the possibility to use cerium-contained nanoparticles to modulate such inflammatory response has gained a lot of interest lately.
