  1. 1. A Study on Particle Motion and Deposition Rate : Application in Steel Flows

    Author : Peiyuan Ni; Pär Jönsson; Lage Jonsson; Mikael Ersson; Stein Tore Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steel flow; ladle teeming; continuous casting; non-metallic inclusion behavior; particle deposition; nozzle clogging; numerical simulation.;

    Abstract : Non-metallic inclusions in molten steel have received worldwide attention due to their serious influence on both the steel product quality and the steel production process. These inclusions may come from the de-oxidation process, the re-oxidation by air and/or slag due to an entrainment during steel transfer, and so on. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pyrolysis of biomass in fluidized-beds: in-situ formation of products and their applications for ironmaking

    Author : Pelle Mellin; Weihong Yang; Blasiak Wlodzimierz; Gerrit Brem; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; Pyrolysis; Fluidized bed; CFD; Blast furnace; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The iron and steel industry emitted 8 % of all CO2 emissions in Sweden, 2011. Investigating alternative energy carriers is the purpose of this thesis. By pyrolyzing biomass, an energetic solid, gaseous and liquid (bio oil) fraction is obtained. READ MORE

  4. 4. Thermal boundary conditions based on field modeling of fires : Heat transfer calculations in CFD and FE models with special regards to fire exposure represented with adiabatic surface temperatures

    Author : Joakim Sandström; Stephen Welch; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : Combining computer fluid dynamic, CFD, models with finite element, FE, models to calculate temperature in fire exposed structures can reduce design temperatures in structures while still obtaining the level of structural fire safety stipulated by society. A better understanding of heat transfer and the concept of adiabatic surface temperatures, AST, the transition of data between models can be simplified and more accurate temperature predictions can be made. 5. 5. Modelling and Simulation of Reactor Pressure Vessel Failure during Severe Accidents

    Author : Peng Yu; Weimin Ma; Walter Villanueva; Sevostian Bechta; Florian Fichot; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RPV failure; thermo-fluid-structure coupling; creep modelling; melt pool heat transfer; severe accident; CFD; FEA; transIVR;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at the development of new coupling approaches and new models for the thermo-fluid-structure coupling problem of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) failure during severe accidents and related physical phenomena. The thesis work consists of five parts: (i) development of a three-stage creep model for RPV steel 16MND5, (ii) development of a thermo-fluid-structure coupling approach for RPV failure analysis, (iii) performance comparison of the new approach that uses volume loads mapping (VLM) for data transfer with the previous approach that uses surface loads mapping (SLM), (iv) development of a lumped-parameter code for quick estimate of transient melt pool heat transfer, and (v) development of a hybrid coupling approach for efficient analysis of RPV failure.
