  1. 1. On the way of making plants smell like moths - a synthetic biology approach

    Author : Bao-Jian Ding; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; moth pheromone; transcriptome; fatty acyl desaturase; fatty acyl reductase; acetyltransferase; chain shortening; chain elongation; heterologous expression; synthetic biology; plant expression;

    Abstract : Moth caterpillars are major agricultural pests in many parts of the world. In general female moths attract male mates with their pheromone over long distance. Most of the described moth pheromones belong to the same class of chemical compounds, fatty acid derivatives that are produced de novo in the pheromone gland. READ MORE

  2. 2. Variability and adaptation in the contractile system of smooth muscle

    Author : Mia Löfgren; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; essential light chain; desmin; shortening velocity; integrin; intermediate filament; hypertrophy; non-muscle myosin; smooth muscle; myosin; heavy chain; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the large diversity of the contractile properties in smooth muscle. Six studies, I-VI, are included. I: a slow smooth muscle (aorta) has a different nucleotide and phosphate dependence compared to a fast type (taenia coli). READ MORE

  3. 3. Differentiated Supply Chain Strategy - Response to a fragmented and complex market

    Author : Per Hilletofth; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Supply chain management; strategies; differentiation; globalization; complexity; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : Supply Chain Management (SCM) aims to synchronize the requirements of customers with the flow of materials from suppliers, in order to satisfy the needs of the customers as costefficiently as possible. This has become a difficult task due to several developments in the market, such as increased competition, increased demand variability, increased product variety, increased amounts of customer-specific products, and shortening product life cycles. 4. 4. Understanding Ionic Conductivity in Crystalline Polymer Electrolytes

    Author : Daniel Brandell; Josh Thomas; Torbjörn Gustafsson; Peter G. Bruce; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Polymer electrolyte; molecular dynamics; conductivity mechanism; aliovalent anion substitution; smectic; nematic; polymer chain length; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Polymer electrolytes are widely used as ion transport media in vital applications such as energy storage devices and electrochemical displays. To further develop these materials, it is important to understand their ionic conductivity mechanisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Function of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in smooth muscle: Effects of hypertrophy and age and desmin removal in a transgenic animal

    Author : Rolf Sjuve; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transgenic mouse; desmin; embryonic myosin; isoforms; myosin heavy chain; age; smooth muscle; hypertrophy; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : In man, the urinary bladder responds to an urinary outflow obstruction with a pronounced dilatation and growth of the bladder wall. This clinical situation can be mimicked in rat by creation of a partial urinary outflow obstruction and the papers included in the present thesis use this animal model to address questions regarding the adaptive changes in the smooth muscle of the growing bladder.
