  1. 1. Staging urban emergence through collective creativity: Devising an outdoor mobile augmented reality tool

    Author : Hyekyung Imottesjo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban Rules; Emergent processes; outdoor mobile augmented reality; Compact city; Complex adaptive systems; Urban resilience; collaborative design; research-through-design;

    Abstract : The unpredictability of global geopolitical conflicts, economic trends, and impacts of climate change, coupled with an increasing urban population, necessitates a more profound commitment to resilience thinking in urban planning and design. In contrast to top-down planning and designing for sustainability, allowing for emergence to take place seems to contribute to a capacity to better deal with this complex unpredictability, by allowing incremental changes through bottom-up, self-organized adaptation made by diverse actors in the proximity of various social, economical and functional entities in the urban context. 2. 2. The Quest for the Room of Requirement - Why Some Activity-based Flexible Offices Work While Others Do Not

    Author : Maral Babapour Chafi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Activity-based working ABW ; Appropriation and adoption of innovations; Office ergonomics; Activity Theory; Process evaluation; Occupational Health Safety OHS ; Workspace design.;

    Abstract : The overarching purpose of this thesis is to develop further knowledge of the consequences of relocating to Activity-based Flexible Offices (AFOs). As workspace design innovations, AFOs are increasingly implemented in organisations. AFOs comprise a variety of workspaces for employees to choose from depending on their preferences or activities. 3. 3. Planning Design Automation Systems - Criteria and Guidelines

    Author : Mikael Cederfeldt; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Synthesis; Potential; Variant design; Design automation; Need; Process maturity; Planning; and Evaluation.;

    Abstract : Design automation can be a powerful tool in the continuous endeavour to cut lead times, workloads, and, ultimately, costs in order to become more competitive in an increasingly globalised market. Identifying a need for design automation is, consequently, not difficult. What becomes a lot more difficult is identifying the actual need, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dwelling in time: Studies on life course spatial adaptability

    Author : Anna Braide; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; spatial adaptability; adaptable apartments; residential resilience; living process; life course; dwelling; social sustainability.;

    Abstract : The ongoing demographic transformation entails profound changes in population structures and implies constantly renewed needs and requests for different apartment space configurations. This challenges the field of design and calls for more adequate apartment solutions for a sustainable urban future. READ MORE

  5. 5. Computational Methods for Design, Planning and Verification regarding Deformable 1D Objects

    Author : Tomas Hermansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; production planning; simulation of deformable 1D objects; variation analysis; non-linear optimization; path planning; assembly verification; routing design;

    Abstract : The industry of today is focused on using virtual tools in the realization of new products. As late changes in a design and planning concept can be extremely costly, there are many benefits to discovering and addressing problems as early as possible: fewer iterations between the different product realization phases and shorter lead-times, reduced numbers of physical prototypes and test series, fewer on-line adjustments in the production system and, in the end, a product of a higher quality.
