  1. 1. Propagation of Chaos for Kac-like Particle Systems

    Author : Dawan Mustafa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Master equations; chaotic densities; kinetic equations; propagation of chaos; Kac model; thermostatted master equation; Boltzmann equation; BGK equation; quenched process; uniform distribution; spectral gap; approximation process; kinetic equations;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns various aspects of the Kac model. The Kac model is a Markov jump process for a particle system where the total kinetic energy of the system is conserved. This particle model is connected to a limiting equation, describing the evolution of a one-particle density, when the numbers of particles tends to infinity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Life histories and population dynamics

    Author : Annie Jonsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : During the last decades there has been a growing interest and attention to random variation in population densities and their causes. It has been shown that even in constant environments (deterministic population growth) the dynamics of populations can display random like behaviour depending on parameter values. READ MORE

  3. 3. Get a grip on chaos : Tailored measures for complex systems on surfaces

    Author : Sascha Firle; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; complex systems; chaos; predator prey; movement models; functional response; spatial heterogeneity; topological dynamics; braid template; homoclinic bifurcations; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Quantum Chemistry; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Complex systems are ubiquitous in physics, biology and mathematics. This thesis is concerned with describing and understanding complex systems. Some new concepts about how large systems can be viewed in a lower dimensional framework are proposed. The systems presented are examples from ecology and chemistry. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lattice Boltzmann simulations of tracer diffusion in microswimmer suspensions

    Author : Henrik Nordanger; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lattice Boltzmann; microswimmers; active matter; enhanced diffusion;

    Abstract : Suspensions of microswimmers are a class of systems inherently out of equilibrium, due to the mechanical work continuously performed by a large number of active agents. Biological examples are plentiful, as many aquatic microorganisms have the ability to propel themselves. READ MORE
