  1. 1. Machine-Printed and Handwritten Ethiopic Script Recognition

    Author : Yaregal Assabie; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HMM; Handwriting Recognition; OCR; Direction Field Tensor; Ethiopic Character Recognition; Amharic Word Recognition; Structure Tensor;

    Abstract : A written language is represented by using machine-printed or handwritten symbols called characters. For automatic recognition of written languages, handwritten script can be captured offline (by a scanner) and online (by electronic digital devices), whereas machine-printed text is captured offline. 2. 2. Multifont recognition System for Ethiopic Script

    Author : Yaregal Assabie Lake; Josef Bigun; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ethiopic character recognition; OCR; Multifont recognition; Amharic; Direction fields; Structural and syntactic pattern recognition; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we present a general framework for multi-font, multi-size and multi-style Ethiopic character recognition system. We propose structural and syntactic techniques for recognition of Ethiopic characters where the graphically comnplex characters are represented by less complex primitive structures and their spatial interrelationships. Abstract : During the last decades Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) has become a more frequently used method to recognise adult’s prior learning. This thesis analyses a process of RPL in health care, where health care assistants are assessed against subjects in the upper-secondary health care program. READ MORE

  4. 4. The power of recognition : the limitation of indigenous peoples

    Author : Stefan Ekenberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industrial Work Environment; Industriell produktionsmiljö;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis is to investigate the relationship between power and indigenous peoples and to find a relevant method with which to study this relationship. It is the condition of power or the lack of power that allows an ethnic group, a ‘tribe’, an ‘indigenous people’ or a ‘people, to become a ‘nation’. READ MORE

  5. 5. Template Based Recognition of On-Line Handwriting

    Author : Jakob Sternby; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; on-line handwriting recognition segmentation dynamic programming clustering discriminative clustering;

    Abstract : Software for recognition of handwriting has been available for several decades now and research on the subject have produced several different strategies for producing competitive recognition accuracies, especially in the case of isolated single characters. The problem of recognizing samples of handwriting with arbitrary connections between constituent characters (emph{unconstrained handwriting}) adds considerable complexity in form of the segmentation problem.
