  1. 11. Thermodynamics of Peptide Nucleic Acid Interactions with DNA

    Author : Tommi Ratilainen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermodynamics; enthalpy-entropy compensation; ionic strength; nucleic acids; fluorescence energy transfer; PNA; calorimetry; sequence-specific binding;

    Abstract : Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) is a DNA mimic with the natural nucleobases attached to a charge-neutral pseudopeptide backbone. It has remarkably strong and sequence-specific binding affinity to natural nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), mainly attributed to the lack of charge in the PNA backbone. READ MORE

  2. 12. Charged Polymers at Spherical Surfaces

    Author : Anna Akinchina; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Monte Carlo simulation; diblock polyampholyte brushes; polymer brushes; persistent length; stiffness; complexation; macroion; polyelectrolyte; polyion;

    Abstract : Two separate topics in the area of colloidal chemistry have been investigated by the use of molecular modeling: the structural properties of polyion?macroion complexes and of diblock polyampholyte brushes. The main results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulation in the framework of the primitive model, and in the case of polyampholyte brushes the simulation results were also complemented by lattice mean-field calculations. 3. 13. Exploring Electronic Processes at the Mesoporous TiO2/Dye/Electrolyte Interface

    Author : Wenxing Yang; Boschloo Gerrit; Hagfeldt Anders; Johansson Erik; Gerald Meyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dye-sensitized solar cells; dye regeneration; Stark effect; the local electric field; cationic effect;

    Abstract : Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are an attractive way to convert light into electricity. Its development requires a detailed understanding and kinetic optimization of various electronic processes, especially those occurring at the mesoporous TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface. READ MORE

  4. 14. Iron Based Materials for Positive Electrodes in Li-ion Batteries : Electrode Dynamics, Electronic Changes, Structural Transformations

    Author : Andreas Blidberg; Fredrik Björefors; Torbjörn Gustafsson; Carl Tengstedt; Miran Gaberšček; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Li-ion; batteries; electrochemistry; iron; LiFeSO4F; Li2FeP2O7; PEDOT; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Li-ion battery technology is currently the most efficient form of electrochemical energy storage. The commercialization of Li-ion batteries in the early 1990’s revolutionized the portable electronics market, but further improvements are necessary for applications in electric vehicles and load levelling of the electric grid. 5. 15. Control of Static Series Compensator for Mitigation of Power Quality Problems

    Author : Hilmy Awad; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Power Electronics and Advanced Control technologies have made it possible to mitigate the power quality problems and maintain the operation of sensitive loads. Among power system disturbances, voltage dips, swells, and harmonics are some of the severe problems to the critical industrial loads. READ MORE
