  1. 1. On the Impact of Piston Motion and In-Cylinder Charge Composition on Energy Release, Auto Ignition and Emission Formation in Premixed Charge Internal Combustion Engines

    Author : Ola Stenlåås; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bränslen; sprängämnen; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; Internal Combustion Engine; Emission; SI; Spark Ignition; HCCI; Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition; zone model; Chemical Kinetic; Engine simulation; Reformed Methanol; Hydrogen; Knock; Auto Ignition; NO; Piston Motion; Nitric Oxide; Premixed Charge;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis can be divided into four areas of investigation: Investigation of the effect of new volume-crank angle relations on engine emissions, power and efficiency; investigation of nitrogen oxides effect on auto ignition and knock in SI engines; investigation of premixed SI and HCCI engine operation with the alternative fuels hydrogen and reformed methanol gas (RMG); software development of a detailed chemical kinetics zonal engine model. Model development of the in-house two-zone chemical kinetic code focused on expansion of the Jacobian matrix to allow simulations of variable in-cylinder charge. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spark Assisted Compression Ignition, SACI

    Author : Håkan Persson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flame propagation; PLIF; LDV; chemiluminescence imaging; residuals; negative valve overlap; low temperature combustion; SACI; spark assistance; HCCI; turbulence; charge stratification; cycle to cycle;

    Abstract : The strong focus on decreasing carbon dioxide emissions due to limited natural resources of fossil fuel as well as alarming climate changes drives the research and development of our prime mover, the combustion engine, faster then ever. The minimum requirement is a power source with increased efficiency while emitting ultra low levels of hazardous local and regional emissions. READ MORE

  3. 3. System Simulation of Partially Premixed Combustion in Heavy-Duty Engines : Gas Exchange, Fuels and In-cylinder Analysis

    Author : Erik Svensson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Partially Premixed Combustion PPC ; Compression ignition; Direct injection; Methanol; Engine optimization; Stochastic reactor model; T-phi diagrams; Partially premixed combustion; Compression Ignition; Direct Injection; Methanol; Engine Optimization; Stochastic reactor model; Gas exchange; T-phi diagrams;

    Abstract : The concept of partially premixed combustion (PPC), applied to conventional diesel engines, has shown to yield high gross efficiencies and low emissions of oxides of nitrogen and soot. PPC emerged from the knowledge gained from homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) research. READ MORE

  5. 5. Homogeneous Ignition - Chemical Kinetic Studies for IC-Engine Applications

    Author : Per Amnéus; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Skeletal mechanism; Mechanism reduction; n-heptane; iso-octane; formaldehyde; methane; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; Physics; Fysik; Detailed chemistry; Kinetic calculations; Engine knock; Homogeneous charge compression ignition; HCCI; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Amnéus;

    Abstract : Calculations on a Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine have been performed. Zero-dimensional models were used. The simplest model compressed the gas to auto-ignition, using temperature and pressure at a certain crank angle position obtained from engine experiments. READ MORE
