  1. 6. Searches for Higgs bosons with hadronically decaying τ-leptons : Using Grid and Cloud computing techniques

    Author : Henrik Öhman; Arnaud Ferrari; Paula Eerola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LHC; ATLAS; Higgs; Charged Higgs; Tau lepton; 2HDM; MSSM; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a measurement of the Standard Model Higgs boson coupling to fermions in decays to two τ-leptons, a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays to a τ-lepton and a neutrino, as well as the reconstruction, identification and triggering of hadronically decaying τ-leptons. The data considered are collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. READ MORE

  2. 7. Top-Quark and Charged Higgs Boson Production at Hadron Colliders : Data Analysis at the DØ Experiment and Simulations for the ATLAS Detector

    Author : Nils Gollub; Tord Ekelöf; Richard Brenner; Patrizia Azzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; ATLAS; LHC; charged Higgs boson; MSSM; D0; Tevatron; top quark; elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis treats two different projects, both aiming at experimental tests at hadron colliders of some specific predictions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics and of its Minimal Supersymmetric extension (MSSM). The thesis is based on four papers. READ MORE

  3. 8. Physics at the High-Energy Frontier : Phenomenological Studies of Charged Higgs Bosons and Cosmic Neutrino Detection

    Author : Oscar Stål; Gunnar Ingelman; Johan Rathsman; Jonathan Ellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; Standard Model; beyond the Standard Model; supersymmetry; Higgs physics; charged Higgs boson; LHC; flavour physics; ultra-high-energy neutrinos; Askaryan effect; radio detection; lunar satellites; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; högenergifysik; High Energy Physics;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics successfully describes present collider data. Nevertheless, theoretical and cosmological results call for its extension. A softly broken supersymmetric completion around the TeV scale solves several of the outstanding issues. Supersymmetry requires two Higgs doublets, leading to five physical Higgs states. READ MORE

  4. 9. Exploration of extended Higgs sectors, development of a displaced track trigger, and improvements in GRID middleware

    Author : Max Isacson; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Patrizia Azzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BSM; Supersymmetry; Standard Model; Higgs; 2HDM; Charged Higgs; Compositeness; Pattern Matching; GRID; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : Two possible solutions to the Standard Model (SM) fine-tuning problem are presented in this thesis, MSSM and Compositeness. The Higgs sector of the MSSM can be tested by searching for charged Higgs bosons. Two direct searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a top- and bottom-quark are performed using 13.2 and 36. 5. 10. Hunting the Charged Higgs Boson with Lepton Signatures in the ATLAS Experiment

    Author : Alexander Madsen; Arnaud Ferrari; Johann Collot; Ellert Mattias; Albert de Roeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charged Higgs boson; ATLAS; LHC; 2HDM; MSSM; particle physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents searches for a charged Higgs boson (H±) in proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Multiple search channels are used with the common characteristic of at least one charged lepton (electron or muon) that effectively reduces the multi-jet background and is used for efficient triggering.
