  1. 1. Polymer extraction and utilization of brown algal biomass

    Author : Martin Sterner; Ulrica Edlund; Fredrik Gröndahl; Marguerite Rinaudo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Algae; Saccharina latissima; alginate; brown seaweed; extraction; filament; chelation; gel; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Aquaculture is a field with a world changing potential. The areas at sea are enormous and aquatic cultivations impact both the environment and local ecology far less than land based cultivations. In the realm of algae, abundancies exists of nutrition, water and accessible sunlight, but there is constant shortage of places to dwell. READ MORE

  2. 2. Enzymatic metal-chelation by porphyrins

    Author : Andreas Hansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tetrapyrrole; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; MIDAS; metallation; magnesium chelatase; integrin; heme; ferrochelatase; chlorophyll; barley; AAA ; ATPase;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the structure and function of two different enzymes, ferrochelatase and magnesium chelatase, that catalyse similar reactions. When this work started, a three-dimensional model of ferrochelatase existed. Much was known about the enzyme, but some details remained unclear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ferrochelatase and Magnesiumchelatase: Metal chelation studied with mutants

    Author : Ulf Olsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; chlorophyll; heme; barley; mutants; Magnesium chelatase; ferrochelatase; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : Magnesium chelatase and ferrochelatase are two very important enzymes, which are involved in chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis, respectively. They both use protoporphyrin IX as substrate but magnesium chelatase inserts a magnesium ion whereas ferrochelatase inserts a ferrous ion. These two enzymes have been studied in this thesis. 4. 4. Proton trapping in the cellular acidic vacuolar compartment : lysosomal mechanisms in apoptosis/necrosis and iron chelation

    Author : Zhengquan Yu; Anders Isaksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Under ischemic conditions, a number of cytotoxic metabolic products are formed. Reactive oxygen species are known to be important mediators of progressive ischemic cell injury, and the synergistic damage to cells caused by the combination of such oxygen species and redox-active iron is well appreciated. 5. 5. Heck Reactions with Aryl Chlorides : Studies of Regio- and Stereoselectivity

    Author : Gopal K. Datta; Mats Larhed; Anders Hallberg; Martin Oestreich; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heck reaction; aryl chloride; vinyl ether; regioselective; stereoselective; palladium; chelation control; microwave; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : Homogeneous palladium-catalyzed Heck vinylation of aryl chlorides was investigated under air using Herrmann’s palladacycle and the P(t-Bu)3-liberating salt [(t-Bu)3PH]BF4. Based on the results, controlled microwave heating was utilized to accelerate model Heck reactions with aryl chlorides down to 30 min employing an electron-poor olefin and a mixture of an ionic liquid and 1,4-dioxane as solvent.
