7. Seaweed Invasions and Novel Chemical Defences
Abstract : Biological invasions pose a risk to the biodiversity and the functioning of ecosystems in invaded areas. The reasons why some introduced species become dominant and widespread in their new environments is still largely an unsettled question. READ MORE

8. Potential Electrocatalysts for Water Splitting Devices : A Journey Through the Opportunities and Challenges of Catalyst Classes
Abstract : In this thesis work, different classes of catalysts and their suitability for integration into an electrolyzer cell has been investigated.Ruthenium based molecular catalysts have shown high activities and stabilities towards water oxidation in neutral pH. Especially the oligomeric catalysts exhibited a superior performance. READ MORE

9. STUDIES OF FACTORS AFFECTING INTRACELLULAR TOXICITY OF THE SCA7 DISEASE PROTEIN ATAXIN - 7 : FOCUS ON ATAXIN-7 DEGRADATION AND OXIDATIVE STRESS
Abstract : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is one of nine neurodegenerative disorders caused by expansion of CAG/polyglutamine repeats. Proteins carrying expanded polyglutamine (polyQ) domains are suggested to be resistant to degradation and aggregate. Furthermore, a negative correlation between aggregation and toxicity has been shown. READ MORE

10. Development and Applications of Surface-Confined Transition Metal Complexes : Heterogeneous Catalysis and Anisotropic Particle Surfaces
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis has been directed towards developing novel surface-confined transition metal complexes for applications in heterogeneous catalysis and for the preparation of anisotropic particle surfaces. The first part describes the heterogenization of a homogeneous transition metal-based catalyst tetraphenyl cobalt porphyrin (CoTPP) on silicon wafers and on silica particles. READ MORE
