  1. 1. Mitotic aberrations in mammalian cells

    Author : Anna Renglin Lindh; Thomas Helleday; Micheline Kirsch-Volders; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aneuploidy; mitotic aberrations; chemical effects; human cancer; DNA repair; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : Almost all cancer cells are aneuploid showing the wrong chromosome number and often with structural aberrations. The degree of aneuploidy correlates with an increase of the severity of the disease and tumour cells with chromosomal instability are more prone to acquire resistance to chemotherapy than other cells. 2. 2. Molecular population genetics of inducible defense genes in Populus tremula

    Author : Carolina Bernhardsson; Stefan Jansson; Santiago González-Martinez; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus; herbivore defense; adaptation; population genetics; population structure; association mapping; complex traits; evolutionär genetik; evolutionary genetics;

    Abstract : Plant-herbivore interactions are among the most common of ecological interactions. It is therefore not surprising that plants have evolved multiple mechanisms to defend themselves, using both constitutive chemical and physical barriers and by induced responses which are only expressed after herbivory has occurred. 3. 3. Genomics and metabolomics in the North Atlantic deep-sea sponge Geodia barretti

    Author : Karin Steffen; Paco Cárdenas; Ulf Göransson; Anders Backlund; Susanna López-Legentil; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; demosponge; whole genome sequencing; population genetics; peptide synthesis; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy;

    Abstract : Sponges are among the earliest diverging taxa in the animal tree of life. They are sessile, filter-feeding animals found in marine and freshwater habitats. Many species are characterized by a close, specific and consistent association with microbes, mainly Bacteria and Archaea. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mutagenesis induced by xenobiotics : factors of importance and modification, with special emphasis on glutathione and glutathione transferases

    Author : Lennart Romert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : Genetic changes induced by chemical agents can result in cancer. Such tumor formation can be linked to activationof oncogenes, often through specific, definable mutagenic events, e.g., single base-pair mutation in specific codons. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genotyping RNA and DNA using padlock probes

    Author : Dan-Oscar Antson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Padlock probe; enzymatic synthesis; PCR; in situ hybridization; RNA-templated DNA ligation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Novel techniques are needed to investigate the genetic variation revealed in the first draft of the human genome sequence. Padlock probes are recently developed reagents, suitable for detecting single-nucleotide variations of DNA and RNA in situ or in solution. READ MORE
