21. Nanoplasmonic Spectroscopy of Single Nanoparticles Tracking Size and Shape Effects in Pd Hydride Formation
Abstract : Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is a phenomenon of collective oscillation of conduction electrons in metal nanoparticles smaller than the wavelength of light that is used for its excitation. Plasmonic metal nanoparticles are able to confine light to extremely small volumes around them, i.e. below the diffraction limit. READ MORE

22. Chemical Interactions between Potassium, Nitrogen, Sulfur and Carbon Monoxide in Suspension-Fired Systems
Abstract : Drastic cuts in global CO2 emissions are needed to mitigate global warming and limit the average temperature increase to well below 2ºC. The power generation sector is largely based on fossil fuels and generates a significant share of the global CO2 emissions. READ MORE

23. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications
Abstract : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 24. Precipitation of Kraft Lignin from Aqueous Solutions
Abstract : One way of improving the materials yield of a kraft paper pulp process, and simultaneously providing the industry with aromatic macromolecular structures, is to extract lignin from the black liquor. This can be done by lowering the pH of the black liquor, which will result in the precipitation of the lignin. READ MORE
