11. An Insight into the Critical Role of Microstructure and Surface Preparation on Localized Conversion Coating Deposition on Cast Al Alloys
Abstract : The spontaneous cerium conversion coating formation over aluminium alloys is affected by the chemical process conditions, the surface preparation prior to conversion treatment and the microstructure of the underlying alloy. Most research performed until now focus only on the former whereas the influence of the latter two is poorly understood. READ MORE

12. Electro-Acoustic and Electronic Applications Utilizing Thin Film Aluminium Nitride
Abstract : In recent years there has been a huge increase in the growth of communication systems such as mobile phones, wireless local area networks (WLAN), satellite navigation and various other forms of wireless data communication that have made analogue frequency control a key issue. The increase in frequency spectrum crowding and the increase of frequency into microwave region, along with the need for minimisation and capacity improvement, has shown the need for the development of high performance, miniature, on-chip filters operating in the low to medium GHz frequency range. 13. Quantitative image analysis : a focus on automated characterization of structures in optical microscopy of iron ore pellets
Abstract : Sintering occurs in many types of material such as iron, ceramics and snow, typically during thermal treatment, and aects the material properties, particularly the strength, by the bonding of particles into a coherent structure. In order to improve the mechanical strength in magnetite iron ore pellets it is important to be able to characterize and quantitatively measure the degree of sintering and features that impact the process of sintering. 14. Fabrication and noise properties of high-Tc SQUIDs with multilayer superconducting flux transformers
Abstract : The thesis describes the development of highTc superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) with multilayer thin film flux transformers. High-Tc SQUID magnetometers are promising in various biomedical applications, including magnetoencephalography (MEG) and ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging (ulf-MRI). READ MORE
