  1. 1. Aging of Lean NOX Trap Catalysts and Hydrocarbon Trapping in Cold-Start Applications

    Author : Rasmus Jonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : It is well known that combustion processes worldwide give rise to emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and particulates. For vehicles, the method for handling these emissions has been through the development of the catalytic converter. READ MORE

  2. 2. Deactivation mechanisms influencing the performance and durability of exhaust aftertreatment systems

    Author : Jesus De Abreu Goes; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal degradation; Gasoline particulate filters; Lean NOx traps; Sulfur poisoning.;

    Abstract : As countermeasure to air pollution and global warming, more stringent environmental policy measures will probably come into force with the future emission standards, which will require important developments for gasoline and diesel vehicles to meet the emerging criteria. Efficient catalytic formulations and advanced strategies for exhaust aftertreatment systems will be therefore demanded to provide both high catalytic activity and stability, minimizing the environmental impact by automobiles. 3. 3. Studies of hydrocarbon-assisted selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides - DME as reductant and reaction mechanism over silver/alumina

    Author : Stefanie Tamm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ZSM-5; NCO; HC-SCR; Dimethyl ether; reaction mechanism; silver alumina;

    Abstract : Increasing amounts of carbon dioxide are attaining worldwide growing attention as one probable cause for global warming. Together with the expected peak in oil production and an increasing oil demand, this results in a greater interest in more fuel effective lean burn engines (i.e. operation with excess oxygen). 4. 4. FTIR Studies and Kinetic Modelling of NOX Reduction and NOX Storage

    Author : Björn Westerberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NOX storage; kinetic modelling; diesel exhaust; alumina; NOX reduction; FTIR spectroscopy; catalysis;

    Abstract : FTIR spectroscopy and kinetic modelling have been used to study catalysts for NOX reduction and NOX storage. For Pt/Al2O3 exposed to NO, oxygen and propene IR-bands associated with nitrates, acetate, formate, carbonates and isocyanate were observed. Experiments with NO, oxygen and HNCO showed that isocyanate is an intermediate for reduction of NOX. READ MORE

  5. 5. CFD Modelling of a Free-Piston Engine Using Detailed Chemistry

    Author : Miriam Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; free-piston; combustion; Diesel; compression ignition; chemical kinetics; HCCI; Computational Fluid Dynamics;

    Abstract : The Free Piston Engine, FPE, which is capable of operating in a variable compression ratio mode, is highly suitable for the promising Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) concept, allowing flexible auto-ignition control on a cycle-to-cycle basis without any hardware modifications. In this study, the effects of varying the start of injection on the emission formation and efficiency of such an engine have been investigated, using simulations based on the KIVA-3V CFD code.
