  1. 21. Increase of Biogas Production at Wastewater Treatment Plants Addition of urban organic waste and pre-treatment of sludge

    Author : Åsa Davidsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kontroll av utsläpp; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Environmental technology; Miljöstudier; Environmental studies; biogas; anaerobic digestion; sludge; Wastewater; organic waste; methane;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion of organic matter results in the production of biogas, which can be used to replace fossil fuels. There is potential for increased biogas production at wastewater treatment plants by digesting urban organic waste either separately or together with the sludge. Biogas production could also be increased by sludge pre-treatment. READ MORE

  2. 22. Air quality assessment and pollution measurements in a typical Sub-Sahara African city: Nairobi, Kenya

    Author : Samuel Mwaniki Gaita; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Particulate matter pollutants; Source apportionment; Sub-Saharan Africa; deposition fractions;

    Abstract : Exposure to air pollution is detrimental to human health and is reported to cause about 7 million premature deaths in 2012 according to the World Health Organization. In sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) cities, air quality issue is complex due to challenges resulting from the rapid growth of urban population, poor infrastructure development and an exponential increase in number of vehicles. 3. 23. Carbonaceous Aerosol in Europe - out of the woods and into the blue?

    Author : Jan Robert Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic aerosol; elemental carbon; chemical transport modelling; residential wood combustion; biotic stress induced emissions; source apportionment; EMEP MSC-W model;

    Abstract : Particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere influences weather and climate and may have important health impacts. Regional scale chemical transport modelling aims to describe the composition of particulate matter, to track different sources, estimate their relative importance, and to give realistic predictions of responses to changes in emissions and atmospheric conditions. 4. 24. Fine particle emissions and slag formation in fixed-bed biomass combustion : aspects of fuel engineering

    Author : Jonathan Fagerström; Christoffer Boman; Dan Boström; Marcus Öhman; Bengt-Johan Skrifvars; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Renewable energy; biomass; thermochemical fuel conversion; combustion; fine particle emissions; slag formation; fixed-bed; ash chemistry; fuel engineering; release;

    Abstract : There is a consensus worldwide that the share of renewable energy sources should be increased to mitigate climate change. The strive to increase the renewable energy fraction can partly be met by an increased utilization of different biomass feedstocks. READ MORE

  5. 25. Oxidation of Kraft Pulp Fibres - Hydrogen Peroxide Oxidation under Acidic Conditions and its Influence on the Properties of Pulp

    Author : Axel Martinsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : An increase in the use of bio-based products, combined with a decrease in the use of fossil-based products, is important for fulfilling the demands of a growing population in a sustainable manner. Moreover, reducing the usage of single-use plastics is vital in combating the plastic pollution that is afflicting our environment. READ MORE
