6. Bispyridylamides as ligands in asymmetric catalysis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the preparation and use of chiralbispyridylamides as ligands in metal-catalyzed asymmetricreactions. The compounds were prepared by amide formation usingdifferent coupling reagents. READ MORE

7. Lewis acid Mediated Aza-Diels-Alder Reactions and Asymmetric Alkylations of 2H-azirines
Abstract : This thesis describes the use of 2H-azirines, three-membered unsaturatednitrogen-containing heterocycles, as reactive intermediates ina number of Lewis acid promoted alkylations and Diels-Alderreactions providing synthetically useful aziridines. In order to carry out this investigation a new generalprocedure for the ring closure of vinyl azides, forming theresultant 3-substituted-2H-azirines, was developed applying low boiling solventsin closed reaction vessels at elevated temperatures. 8. Bispidine derivatives as molecular tools for studies of (-Allyl)palladium complexes : Ligand synthesis and analythical cpplications
Abstract : Determination of structural and stereochemical features of reaction intermediates in transition metal catalysed reactions is of central interest. Bispidine derivatives as ligands in (π-allyl)palladium complexes in combination with 1H NMR spectroscopy are shown to be useful tools for revealing structural characteristics of these reaction intermediates. 9. Asymmetric catalysis : ligand design and microwave acceleration
Abstract : This thesis deals partly with the design and synthesis ofligands for use in asymmetric catalysis, and partly with theapplication of microwave heating on metal-based asymmetriccatalytic reactions.Enantiomerically pure pyridyl alcohols and bipyridylalcohols were synthesized from the chiral pool for future usein asymmetric catalysis. 10. Development and application of new chiral -amino alcohols in synthesis and catalysis : Use of 2-azanorboryl-3-methanols as common intermediates in synthesis and catalysis
Abstract : The development and application of unnatural amino alcohols, prepared via hetero-Diels-Alder reactions,in synthesis and catalysis is described. The studies are concerned with the [i]scope of the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction and preparation of important intermediates in the synthesis of antiviral agents,[ii ]application of amino alcohols in the ruthenium transfer hydrogenation of ketones,[iii ]use of similar precursors in the in situ generation of oxazaborolidines for reduction of ketones, and [iv] development and application of new chiral auxiliaries for dialkylzinc additions to activated imines, respectively.
