  1. 1. Dual targeting of glutathione reductase to mitochondria and chloroplasts

    Author : Charlotta Rudhe; Elzbieta Glaser; Ralf Bernad Klösgen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dual targeting; mitochondria; chloroplasts; import; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : As a consequence of the presence of both mitochondria and chloroplasts in plant cells there is a higher sorting requirement in a plant cell than that in a non-plant cell. Reflecting this, protein import to mitochondria and chloroplasts has been shown to be highly specific. READ MORE

  2. 2. PresequenceProtease (PreP), a novel Peptidasome in Mitochondria and Chloroplasts : Localization, Function, Structure and Mechanism of Proteolysis

    Author : Shashi Bhushan; Elzbieta Glaser; Johannes Herrmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein import; mitochondria; chloroplasts; PresequenceProtease; Alzheimer; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The information for mitochondrial and chloroplastic protein import and targeting generally resides in the N-terminal part of the protein, called a targeting peptide. The targeting peptide is cleaved off by the organellar processing peptidases after import of a precursor protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. From green to yellow : a leaf story

    Author : Olivier Keech; Per Gardeström; Pierre Dizengremel; Lee Sweetlove; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; chloroplasts; cytoskeleton; darkness; metabolism; microscopy; mitochondria; microtubules; senescence; system redox; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : När ett blad gulnar genomgår det både morfologiska och metaboliska förändringar. Denna process benämns senescence och en förbättrad förståelse av dess mekanismer är viktiga både ur ett grundvetenskapligt perspektiv och för potentiella bioteknologiska applikationer. READ MORE

  5. 5. Oscillatory phenomena in chloroplasts from spinach cotyledons

    Author : Gertrud Puu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A suspensionofchloroplasts, isolated from spinach cotyledons, was found to be an oscillatory system, i.e. a system in which one parameter (or more) varies over time in a fairly regular way.The oscillations, with a period of fifteen to twenty minutes,occured spontaneously in the light as well as in the dark and were self-sustained for several hours.
