1. Evaluation of suitable nursery areas for penaeid shrimps in shallow water systems in southern Mozambique
Abstract : Tropical shallow water habitats such as estuaries, mangrove forests and seagrass beds are important nursery areas for juveniles of many commercially important species including penaeid shrimp. Penaeids are one of the most important fishery resources worldwide, and in Mozambique they are the basis of a profitable commercial fishery, landing hundreds of tons per year. READ MORE

2. Long Term Outcome and Prediction Models of Cognition, Activities of Daily Living and Nursing Home Placement in Alzheimer’s Disease with Cholinesterase Inhibitor Treatment
Abstract : Background Prospective longitudinal studies in Alzheimer's disease (AD) that include cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEI) treatment in routine clinical settings are scarce. The patients vary in severity of the disease, clinical course, rate of progression and response to treatment. READ MORE

3. Long-term treatment response, predictors and biochemical markers in Alzheimer’s disease
Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is clinically characterised by an insidious onset with progressive symptoms of memory impairment, dysphasia, dyspraxia, dygnosia and visuospatial difficulties. Degeneration of neurons in specific regions of the brain, formation of senile plaques and neurofibrillary changes are some of the neuropathological features of the disease. READ MORE

5. Cholinesterase inhibitors in Alzheimer's disease : an experimental study on mechanisms of interatcion with muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotection
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the mechanisms beyond the interaction of cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) with the cholinergic system in brain, with emphasis on their regulatory and mechanistic effects on subtypes of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotective properties. To investigate muscarinic receptor subtypes in frontal cortices of AD brains, the muscarinic antagonists pirenzepine, AF-DX 116, HHSiD, p-F-HHSiD and himbacine were used in receptor binding assays.
