  1. 1. Multiple Aphid resistance from alien sources and its chromosomal location in bread wheat

    Author : Leonardo Crespo; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a very important cereal crop and is cultivated worldwide on more than 200 million hectares annually, with an average grain yield of about 3 t/ha. A number of diseases and pests are known to affect wheat production, with aphids being important insect pests. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Unified Multitude : Experimental Studies of Bacterial Chromosome Organization

    Author : Eva Garmendia; Diarmaid Hughes; Linus Sandegren; John R. Roth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacterial evolution; chromosome organization and structure; chromosomal inversions; EF-Tu; horizontal gene transfer; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : Bacteria are many, old and varied; different bacterial species have been evolving for millions of years and show many disparate life-styles and types of metabolism. Nevertheless, some of the characteristics regarding how bacteria organize their chromosomes are relatively conserved, suggesting that they might be both ancient and important, and that selective pressures inhibit their modification. Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignancy of the human kidney, occurring most commonly during the seventh and eighth decades of life. The incidence is high in the Nordic countries and the five year survival is 40-50%. Smoking is a risk factor inferring a minor increase in risk. The best established risk factor is obesity. 4. 4. Molecular structure and intracellular location of five RNA : associated proteins in the salivary glands of the dipteran Chironomus tentans

    Author : Sun Xin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : hnRNPs; RNA-binding domains; shuttling proteins; non-shuttling proteins; nucleo-cytoplasmic transport; SR proteins;

    Abstract : The structure and intracellular flow of specific RNA-associated proteins have been characterized in the salivary gland cells in the dipteran Chironomus tentans. These cells contain four polytene chromosomes (I-IV), two of which harbour a nucleolus. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human papillomaviruses : role in cervical dysplasia and carcinoma, and use as molecular risk marker for progression

    Author : Mina Kalantari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Human papillomavirus; high risk; HPV; PCR; typing; cervical carcinoma; CIN; integration; disruption; deletion; El; E2; survival; inverse PCR; episomal DNA; FISH; chromosomal location;

    Abstract : The general aim of these studies was to define the role of infection with oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPV) for development of cervical dysplasia and to obtain early molecular markers for progression to carcinoma. The results of cytological screening of 500 women in the Stockholm Gynaecologic Health Control were compared with HPV detection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and in situ hybridisation (ISH).
