  1. 1. Development of molecular biology tools for the wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis

    Author : Anna Schifferdecker; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-conventional yeasts; Dekkera bruxellensis; genetic tools; chromosomes variability; glucose fermentation; genotype-phenotype paradigm; baking yeasts;

    Abstract : The non-conventional wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis is of great interest for the food industry and academic research. This Crabtree-positive yeast is a good ethanol producer and can compete the baker´s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in ethanol and pH tolerance and could be an even better organism for the biofuel production from alternative carbon sources. 2. 2. The exploration and evolution of the avian genomic dark matter

    Author : Valentina Peona; Alexander Suh; Hanna Johannesson; Rachel O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolutionary genomics; genome assembly; sex chromosomes; birds; satellite DNA; transposable elements; endogenous retroviruses; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : The development and improvement of genome sequencing technologies in the last decade revolutionised the entire field of biology with genome assemblies of virtually any organism. Despite this tremendous progress, complex genomic regions are systematically missing from genome assemblies and form the so-called "genomic dark matter". READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular genetics of kidney cancer : chromosomal regions of importance in the development of renal cell carcinoma

    Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignancy of the human kidney, occurring most commonly during the seventh and eighth decades of life. The incidence is high in the Nordic countries and the five year survival is 40-50%. Smoking is a risk factor inferring a minor increase in risk. The best established risk factor is obesity. 4. 4. Chromosomal Instability and Genomic Amplification in Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours

    Author : David Gisselsson Nord; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear atypia; kinetochore; anaphase bridge; p53; breakage-fusion-bridge cycle; TP53; HMGIC; MDM2; mitotic instability; genomic instability; FISH; osteosarcoma; liposarcoma; amplification; tumour; chromosome; cytogenetics; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Acquired genetic abnormalities are found in all types of malignant tumours and may contribute to neoplastic processes by altering protein structure or dosage. Many bone and soft tissue tumours (BSTT) are characterised by complex patterns of chromosome changes, including extensive intratumour heterogeneity and amplification of DNA sequences. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evolutionary Studies of the Mammalian Y Chromosome

    Author : Linda Hellborg; Hans Ellegren; Terry Burke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Y chromosome; field vole; cattle; selection; primer design; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Sex chromosomes are useful in elucidating the evolutionary factors affecting diversity and divergence. In particular, Y chromosome analyses may complement studies using mitochondrial DNA for inferring sex-specific population genetic processes. READ MORE
