  1. 6. Effects of Hemoglobin Normalization with Epoetin in Chronic Kidney Disease

    Author : Hans Furuland; Björn Wikström; Torbjörn Linde; Peter Barany; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; Anemia; blood viscosity; cardiac output; chronic kidney disease; renal dialysis; dialysis adequacy; erythopoietin; heart rate variability; hemoglobin; hemorheology; hypertension; kidney transplantation; Kt V; left ventricular hypertrophy; Quality of Life; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Anemia is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CDK), contributes to reduced Quality of Life (QoL) and is associated with cardiovascular disease, morbidity and mortality. Epoetin raises hemoglobin (Hb) and increases QoL and physical exercise capacity. READ MORE

  2. 7. A life-course approach to chronic kidney disease : risks and consequences

    Author : Per-Ola Sundin; Scott Montgomery; Katja Fall; Per Sjöström; Dorothea Nitsch; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic kidney disease; pneumonia; grip strength; creatinine; cystatin C; adolescence; life-course epidemiology; risk factor; mortality;

    Abstract : Successful primary prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD) relies on understanding the pathways leading to established disease, including how they extend over the life-course. Projects in this thesis examine risk factors for CKD and consequences of impaired kidney function from a life-course perspective using routinely collected health-data in Swedish registers and research cohort data from the United Kingdom. 3. 8. Evaluation of Myocardial Function in Chronic Kidney Disease : A Colour Tissue Velocity Imaging Study

    Author : Shirley Hayashi; Lars-Åke Brodin; Svend Aakhus; KTH; []
    Keywords : Cardiac; Kidney; Tissue; Velocity; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), overhydration, uremic toxins and left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony are factors that may lead to LV dysfunction and conduction abnormalities and thus contribute to the high cardiac mortality. Colour tissue velocity imaging (TVI) allows a detailed quantitative analysis of cardiac function in CKD patients, opening new possibilities to evaluate longitudinal myocardial motion, rapid isovolumetric events, LV filling pressure and LV synchronicity. 4. 9. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease

    Author : Carla Carvalho; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Malou Friederich; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oxygen; Kidney mitochondria; Hypoxia-inducible factors; Prolyl hydroxylase; von Hippel-Lindau; Diabetes; Aging; Kidney; Sodium; RAAS; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. READ MORE

  5. 10. A parental perspective on  child chronic kidney disease : The lived experience of caregiving in Portugal

    Author : Andréa Bruno de Sousa; Anette Wickström; Ana Rita Goes; Sonja Olin Lauritzen; Linköpings universitet; []

    Abstract : Paediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD) requires complex care and radically transforms the everyday life of the child’s family. This thesis examines parents’ lived experience of dealing with a child’s CKD; how social and economic circumstances impact on families’ opportunities to manage the care; and how parents view and practise their parenthood.
