  1. 16. Genomic and transcriptomic sequencing in chronic lymphocytic leukemia

    Author : Diego Cortese; Richard Professor; Carlos López Otín; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic; lymphocytic; leukemia; CLL; genomics; transcriptomics; DNA; RNA; mutations; NGS; whole-exome; sequencing; prognostic; markers; TP53; SF3B1; RPS15; relapse; stereotyped; subsets.;

    Abstract : Identification of recurrent mutations through next-generation sequencing (NGS) has given us a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) development and progression and provided novel means for risk assessment in this clinically heterogeneous disease. In paper I, we screened a population-based cohort of CLL patients (n=364) for TP53, NOTCH1, SF3B1, BIRC3 and MYD88 mutations using Sanger sequencing, and confirmed the negative prognostic impact of TP53, SF3B1 or NOTCH1 aberrations, though at lower frequencies compared to previous studies. 2. 17. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : clinical phenotyping, mortality and causes of death

    Author : Sami Sawalha; Anne Lindberg; Helena Backman; Nikolai Stenfors; Karin Lisspers; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Phenotyping; chronic airflow obstruction; COPD; productive cough; pre- and postbronchodilator airway obstruction; co-morbidity; epidemiology; mortality; causes of death; sex; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is common. The estimated prevalence is about 10% among adults, but varies largely dependent on the major risk factors age and smoking. Under-diagnosis of COPD is substantial and is related to disease severity. READ MORE

  3. 18. Chronic atrial fibrillation in man. Activation, organisation and characterisation

    Author : Magnus Holm; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ECG spectral analysis; Preferential conduction; Organisation; Conduction velocity; Refractoriness; Mechanisms; Activation pattern; Chronic; Fibrillation; Human; Atrium; Open-heart surgery; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF), with a prevalence progressively increasing with age, is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias in man and associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Previous studies have shown that, in animals as well as in man, experimental atrial fibrillation is based on different types and dimensions of intra-atrial electrical re-entry. READ MORE

  4. 19. Imaging Chronic Pain and Inflammation : Positron Emission Tomography Studies of Whiplash Associated Disorder

    Author : Clas Linnman; Mats Fredrikson; Tomas Furmark; Israel Liberzon; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis is on chronic neck pain after a rear impact car injury, so called whiplash associated disorder (WAD). Three empirical studies using positron emission tomography (PET) with different radioligands have been performed. READ MORE

  5. 20. Being creative and resourceful : Individuals’ abilities and possibilities for self-management of chronic illness

    Author : Åsa Audulv; Kenneth Asplund; Karl-Gustaf Norbergh; Karin Axelsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Self-management; self-care; chronic illness; chronic disease; qualitative research; life conditions; beliefs and values; self-management integration; longitudinal; Egenvård; sjukdomshantering; kronisk sjukdom; kvalitativ forskning; livsvillkor; värderingar; egenvårds integrering; hantering; anpassning; Nursing; Omvårdnad;

    Abstract : Individuals’ self-management styles are crucial for how they manage to live with illness. Commonly investigated factors include social support, self-efficacy, health beliefs, and demographics. There is a gap in the literature with regard to in-depth studies of how those factors actually influence an individual’s self-management. READ MORE
