  1. 1. Validation of Several Nucleoside Tracers as Proliferation Markers

    Author : Li Lu; Sven Reske; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biopharmacy; PET; cell proliferation; DNA synthesis; hydroxyurea; cimetidine; diuretic; Biofarmaci; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Positron emission tomography (PET) is a powerful method for in vivo characterization of tumor biochemistry and clinically has been used for diagnosing and grading of malignancy. A key element in oncology is proliferation potential, a feature that is assumed to be an important indicator of tumor growth. READ MORE

  2. 2. The expert and medical progress : Experts' influence on the views of peptic ulcer and dyspepsia and its treatment in Scandinavia during five decades

    Author : Herdis Molinder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; peptic ulcer; dyspepsia; cimetidine; H2-receptor antagonists; psychosomatic; humanfactor; controversy; interpretation; drug consumption; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : In this study the experts' influence on the recommendations for treatment of peptic ulcer in Scandinavia during the period 1940-1975, on the development of the first H2-receptor antagonist, cimetidine, on the adoption and use of H-receptor antagonists during the introductory phase in Scandinavia 1978-1986, and on the controversy about dyspepsia, is analysed.Experts during 1940-1960 promoted their "cures" containing severe diet restrictions and bed rest, convinced of their benefit. 3. 3. Parietal cell regeneration in rat gastric mucosal wounds : a quantitative light and electron microscopical study

    Author : Håkan Blom; Herbert Helander; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rat; gastric mucosa; gastric wounds; parietal cells; regeneration; pyloroplasty; truncal vagotomy; antrectomy; pentagastrin; cimetidine; carbacholine; stereology; light microscopy; electron microscopy; pH-studies;

    Abstract : The aims of the study were to obtain a method with which it would be possible to produce standardized wounds in the gastric mucosa, and to follow the regeneration of the acid producing parietal cells in those lesions during different experimental conditions. Quantitative methods applied to light and electron microscopy were used. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mediator synergism in mast celldependent inflammation : role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to study functional interactions between histamine and chemotactic mediators, and the role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment in mast cell-dependent inflammation. Leukocyte rolling, adhesion and emigration. READ MORE

  5. 5. Improved cancer survival with use of common antihistamines. Epidemiological studies on the use of H1-antihistamines and survival in cancer

    Author : Ildikó Fritz; LUCC: Lunds universitets cancercentrum; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; histamine H1 antagonists; histamine antagonists; chemotherapy; immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Cancer often results from chronic inflammation, and anti-inflammatory medications are therefore potential candidates for drug repurposing for cancer therapy. H2-antihistamines such as cimetidine have long been studied for their promise as cancer medications, but H1-antihistamines have thus far not been studied widely for this purpose. READ MORE
