1. Adaptive Design for Circular Business Models in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry
Abstract : The vision of a circular economy (CE) promises both profitability and eco-sustainability to industries, and can, from a material and energy resource flow perspective, be operationalized by combining three business and design strategies: closing loops; narrowing and slowing down resource flows by material recycling, improving resource efficiency; and by extending product life by reuse, upgrades and remanufacturing. These three strategies are straightforward ways for industries to radically reduce their use of virgin resources. READ MORE

2. Automotive Remanufacturing in a Changing Market : Challenges and Opportunities in a market with a growing share of electric cars
Abstract : This doctoral thesis deals with closed-loop supply chains, which include remanufacturing. Remanufacturing can be described as an industrial process to bring back a used good into an “as-good-as-new” condition. Furthermore, focus is put on one of the largest global industry sectors: the automotive industry. READ MORE

3. Learning from assessments of resource efficiency measures and their impact on resource use and the environment - Based on a case of additive manufacturing and a review of assessment studies
Abstract : Resource efficiency measures have the potential to reduce the environmental and resource impacts of the current linear economy by decreasing the physical flows of material and energy associated with producing and using products and services. In order to investigate this potential, there is a need for assessments from a systems perspective, which for example enables the identification of possible trade-offs between different measures and aspects of resource efficiency depending on the product characteristics. 4. Towards empirically grounded guidance for resource efficiency: Applying, developing and synthesising environmental assessments
Abstract : Numerous solutions have been proposed to mitigate environmental damage, including resource efficiency and the vision of circular economy. Suggested solutions are often formulated as guidelines and heuristics like in the EU waste hierarchy, so-called R-hierarchies for resource efficiency and various guidelines for circular business models. 5. Carbon Recovery in A Dual Fluidized Bed Gasifier
Abstract : As the concept of a circular economy gains acceptance and awareness of climate change and its disastrous consequences increases, the ways in which we produce the carbon-based goods upon which so much of our economy depends need to change. Society must end its reliance on fossil carbon resources and shift to renewable sources that enable the establishment of a carbon cycle. READ MORE
