  1. 6. Numerical Simulation of High Reynolds Number Wall Bounded Flow

    Author : Tobias Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; subgrid model; DES; high; validation; LES; numerical simulation; near-wall;

    Abstract : In this thesis, four different numerical methods are used for predictions of high Reynoldsnumber (Re), wall bounded flows; Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with two different subgrid(turbulence) models, the One Equation Eddy Viscosity model (OEEVM) and the MixedModel (MM), Monotone Integrated LES (MILES), Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) andReynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS). The LES calculations are combined with a wallmodel based on the law-of-the-wall and in DES a hybrid RANS/LES method is used forhandling the near wall region. READ MORE

  2. 7. Analysis of the cold flow field in a rotary kiln

    Author : Sofia Larsson; Lisa Prahl Wittberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The pelletizing process where the crude ore from the mine is upgraded to pellets is a process which includes several stages involving complex fluid dynamics. In this thesis, focus is on the grate-kiln pelletizing process and especially on the rotary kiln, with the objective to get a deeper understanding of the aerodynamics and its influence on the combustion process. 3. 8. On the modelling of turbulent flow and mixing in stirred reactors

    Author : Johan Revstedt; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; CFD; stirred reactors; impeller modelling; Energy research; mixing; LES; Energiforskning;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the numerical simulations and modelling of the flow structure and scalar transport in stirred reactors. For this Large Eddy Simulations (LES) have been used. The flow situation in a stirred reactor includes several flow phenomena that are not well predicted by "standard" two-equation models, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 9. Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Flames Stabilized by Swirl Flow and Bluff-body:Flame Structures and Flame Instabilities

    Author : Yiheng Tong; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flame structures; Flame instabilities; Blowout limits; Flashback; Swirl Flow; Bluff-body; Chemiluminescence; PIV;

    Abstract : Combustion and its control are essential to our existence on this planet since we knew it. Nowadays, the largest share of the world’s electricity and most of our transportation systems are powered by combustion. In addition, industrial processes also rely heavily upon combustion. 5. 10. Ventilation Flow Field Characteristics of a Hydro-Generator Model- An experimental and Numerical Study

    Author : Hamed Jamshidi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naphthalene Sublimation Technique; Hydro Power Generator; Ventilation; Experiment; CFD;

    Abstract : Hydro-generators are complex machines used to convert the mechanical energy of the water turbine into electrical energy. Electromagnetic and mechanical losses accompany this energy conversion process which will cause heat generation and temperature increase. Cooling systems are needed to remove this excess heat from hydro-generators. READ MORE
