  1. 1. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt in the treatment of symptomatic portal hypertension

    Author : Kerstin Rosenqvist; Rickard Nyman; Charlotte Ebeling Barbier; Fredrik Rorsman; Lars-Gunnar Eriksson; Lars Lönn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Portal hypertension; TIPS; transjugular; portal venous thrombosis; mesenteric venous thrombosis; liver cirrhosis; interventional radiology; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Portal hypertension (PHT) is a condition with serious complications, such as variceal bleeding, refractory ascites and bowel ischemia. The cause of PHT may be pre-, intra- or post-hepatic. Initial treatment is pressure-reducing drugs and the treatment of acute symptoms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Power Doppler - Principles and Potential Clinical Applications

    Author : Anders Nilsson; PG Lindgren; Torbjörn Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; Ultrasonography; Doppler studies; Power Doppler; Volume flow; Radiologisk forskning; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The purpose of this work was to: a) Determine whether the amount of colour in a power Doppler image is dependent on the angle between the examined vessel and the soundbeam and/or on the velocity of the flow within the vessel; b) Investigate if a dependency on flow velocity could be used for the detection of volume flow differences and c) Define clinical applications utilising the improved sensitivity to low flow of PD.In the experimental studies (study I and II) a silicon tube in a water bath was insonated, the insonation angle and the volume flow changed and the resulting images stored, transferred to a personal computer and analysed with regard to the amount of colour present in the image. 3. 3. Ultrasound examination of lymph nodes in the hepato-duodenal ligament with special emphasis on patients with chronic liver diseases

    Author : Kerstin Lyttkens; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ultrasound diagnosis; magnetic resonance imaging; hepato-duodenal ligament; lymph node enlargement; biliary cirrhosis; chronic active hepatitis; humoral immunoreactivity; hepatocellular damage; cholestasis.;

    Abstract : The significance of finding lymph nodes in the hepato-duodenal ligament on ultrasound, with special emphasis on patients with inflammatory liver disease, has been evaluated. In one study a comparison was made with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is another non-invasive imaging modality without the hazards of ionizing radiation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ultrasound based shear wave elastography of the liver : a non-invasive method for evaluation of liver disease

    Author : Marie Byenfeldt; Anders Elvin; Per Fransson; Odd Helge Gilja; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anthropometric measurement; diagnostic imaging; elasticity imaging technique; blood supply; BMI; body position; fatty liver; liver disease; hepatic steatosis; liver fibrosis; liver stiffness; obesity; postural change; pressure; probe; sex characteristic; shear wave elastography; skin-to-liver capsule distance; transducer and ultrasonography; Radiography; radiografi;

    Abstract : Background: Detecting liver disease at an early stage is important, given that early intervention decreases the risk of developing cirrhosis and subsequently hepatocellular cancer (HCC). The non-invasive ultrasound-based shear wave elastography (SWE) has been used clinically for a decade to assess liver stiffness. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Non-Invasive Liver Biopsy : Determining Hepatic Function in Diffuse and Focal LiverDisease

    Author : Mikael Forsgren; Peter Lundberg; Gunnar Cedersund; Bengt Norén; Olof Dahlqvist Leinhard; Steven Sourbron; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The liver is one of the largest organs within the human body and it handles many vital tasks such as nutrient processing, toxin removal, and synthesis of important proteins. The number of people suffering from chronic liver disease is on the rise, likely due to the present ‘western’ lifestyle. READ MORE
