  1. 6. Organic Photochemistry. Scope and Limitations of Twofold Adiabatic Cis-Trans Isomerizations

    Author : Ingjald Anger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : To investigate the scope and limitations of twofold adiabatic cis/trans photoisomerizations, a number of bis-stilbenes and bisstyryl compounds have been prepared and studied in the excited singlet or triplet states. Their structures vary according to the size of the .pi. READ MORE

  2. 7. Structural and Functional Studies of Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase A and 1-deoxy-D-xylulose- 5-phosphate reductoisomerase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis

    Author : Lena M Henriksson; Torsten Unge; Sherry L. Mowbray; Barbara Seaton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biology; Mycobacterium tuberculosis; Rv0009; peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase; Rv2870c; 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate reductoisomerase; non-mevalonate pathway; DOXP MEP pathway; X-ray crystallography; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative pathogen of tuberculosis, currently infects one-third of the world’s population, resulting in two million deaths annually. This clearly shows that tuberculosis is one of the most serious diseases of our times. READ MORE

  3. 8. The balance of splicing : A novel insight into the splicing regulation of high-risk HPV E6 and E7 oncogenes

    Author : Johanna Jönsson; Naoko Kajitani; Stefan Schwartz; Ola Forslund; Francesca Aguilo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HPV; splice donor; splice acceptor; cis-element; trans-acting factor; pre-mRNA splicing; splicing regulation.; Medical Virology; Medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : HPV is associated with several cancers. The genome consists of a long control region, early (E1, E2, E4, E5, E6 and E7) and late (L1 and L2) genes. The E6 and E7 proteins prevent cells from entering apoptosis and regulate the cell cycle. A deregulated expression of these can result in malignant transformations. READ MORE

  4. 9. Thiol−ene Coupling of Renewable Monomers : at the forefront of bio-based polymeric materials

    Author : Mauro Claudino; Mats K. G. Johansson; Mats Jonsson; Anna Wistrand; Sven Göthe; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thiol-ene chemistry; monounsaturated fatty-acids; renewable resources; cis trans-isomerization; photopolymerization; networks; polyesters; thermal viscoelastic properties; thin-films; unsaturated macro lactones; coatings;

    Abstract : Plant derived oils bear intrinsic double-bond functionality that can be utilized directly for the thiol–ene reaction. Although terminal unsaturations are far more reactive than internal ones, studies on the reversible addition of thiyl radicals to 1,2-disubstituted alkenes show that this is an important reaction. 5. 10. Catalysis of Quantum Chain Photoisomerizations: Calculations of Triplet Energy Surfaces and Measurements of Quantum Yields

    Author : Maria Brink; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; triplet state; density functional theory; potential energy surface; cis-trans isomerization; adiabatic isomerization; catalysis;

    Abstract : Triplet state cis-trans photoisomerizations of olefins is the theme of this thesis, and the goal is to make the isomerizations as efficient as possible. The shape of the triplet potential energy surface (T1 PES) is essential for this, and the possibility of calculating these T1 PESs for two smaller olefins, using the computationally inexpensive density functional theory (DFT) methods, was investigated.
